Topaz Studio Photo filter to smart object works first time, wrong version used when editing

Created smart object in photoshop beta 27.7   then applied Topaz Studio → Photo filter.   Topaz version 1.4 opens and works fine.  Then save file and see the smart filter created - it says Topaz Photo AI.  When I go to edit the smart filter it starts the wrong version of Topaz - it is using the old Photo AI version 4.    Photoshop should reopen the studio version.

Looks like photoshop is storing the incorrect filter program

There was a ‘major’ update today (1.5.1) but the issue persists.  All told ‘Topaz Studio’ is a huge family of apps.  With a decent workstation and Starlink, Gigapixel, Photo and Video took well over 30 minutes to update.  The Studio folder (Program Data) is 108Gb — that’s not far off the size of my Windows folder!

I hadn’t noticed that, but it happens for me, as expected from Cory’s comment.  I did wonder if opening Studio > Photo, rather than double click the Smart Object filter, might bypass the issue, but it registers as a new application of the filter, and repeats indicating the wrong Topaz filter.

    Hi @Skibum401

Topaz Smart Filters -- Settings Not Restoring on Re-edit

If you're using Topaz filters as Smart Filters and finding that your settings don't restore correctly when you re-open the filter to edit it, this is a known issue we're looking into. The problem appears to be related to how Topaz reads back its saved settings when the filter is reopened -- in some cases it doesn't restore state correctly, which can look like your adjustments have been lost or reset.

    Workarounds in the meantime:

    • Make sure you're on the latest version of your Topaz plugin
    • Avoid stacking multiple Topaz Smart Filters on the same layer when possible
    • Place your layer inside a Smart Object and apply the Topaz filter to that, rather than applying it directly
    • For noise reduction and sharpening, Photoshop's built-in options under Filter > Denoise are a solid alternative while this is being sorted out

If you can reliably reproduce this, a screen recording or sample file would be really helpful -- please share it in this thread or send it our way and we'll make sure it gets in front of the right people.

    Thanks,
