Photoshop 27.11: Severe brightness shifts during live adjustments and retouching; correct image appears only after releasing the mouse
I am a professional photographer and this issue is seriously affecting my daily work in Photoshop.
The problem occurred in Photoshop 27.10 and is still present in Photoshop 27.11.
Problem:
During active image adjustments, Photoshop displays a dramatically incorrect brightness/tonal appearance. Only after I release the mouse button does the image return to the correct rendering.
A very clear example is a Levels adjustment layer:
- Create or select a Levels adjustment layer.
- Move one of the sliders.
- While the slider is being moved, the entire image becomes significantly brighter or darker than the actual adjustment.
- As soon as the mouse button is released, Photoshop displays the correct result.
The problem is not limited to Levels. I also experience similar brightness shifts while retouching, for example when using the Clone Stamp tool.
This is reproducible and makes accurate visual image editing extremely difficult, because Photoshop does not show the actual result while an adjustment is being made.
Expected behaviour:
The image should continuously display the correct result while moving adjustment sliders or performing retouching.
Actual behaviour:
Photoshop temporarily shows a strongly incorrect brightness/tonal rendering during the operation. The correct image appears only after the operation is finished.
I have already tested the suggested GPU/performance/compositing settings. They did not solve the problem.
System: Mac Studio M4 Max, 64 GB RAM
Photoshop: 27.11
This is not a minor cosmetic flickering issue. For professional photographic image editing, being able to judge tonal changes accurately while making an adjustment is essential.
Since the problem has persisted through several Photoshop updates, I would like to know:
- Is this specific issue already known and being actively worked on?
- Is there an internal bug/ticket for it?
- Is there any expected timeframe for a proper fix?
Rolling back Photoshop or disabling important GPU functionality is not an acceptable long-term solution for a professional application.
I can provide a screen recording and complete Photoshop System Information if required.
