Generative Fill Not Available v27.6

When I try to use Generative Fill as I have done many times in the past, I get an error message saying “This feature is currently not available”. This only started happening when I installed PS v27.6.0 this morning. I checked and I still have credits available. I am using PS on a Windows 11 PC with the latest updates (as of April 26, 2026). Help! I use generative fill all the time.

@fRAVNz I had to shut down, ie, turn off the power, and then start up. Simply restarting did not solve the problem for me. I have no idea why just plain restarting did not work except that something must have been left in memory or in a temp file that disappears with a power down. Good luck.

I still have the exact same problem - signing out/restarting did not solve the ‘generative fill is unavailable’-problem.

I had to resort back to the 26.11.5 Photoshop release, where generative fill is working fine.

    Hi Ken

    Thanks for your reply.

My ‘generative filling’ have not been working for 2 days - even though I did switch off my laptop & restarting Creative Cloud Desktop.
However it’s been activated now during the last 2 hours - I think posting here helped..! 😉

I’m based in South Africa, so possibly it took longer for relevant servers to be updated/activated, etc.

    Cheers!

Hi @Ken Curtis, this might have been a temporary glitch. I’m also on Windows 11 and not having any problems so far. Try signing all the way out of the Creative Cloud Desktop app (File > Quit Creative Cloud). Relaunch and open Photoshop from the app, not from a shortcut or image file. Also, which model were you trying to use? Or are you getting the same error message with all models? Maybe revert to 27.5 if you are needing to get some work done now and then update later when you have more time. Let us know how it goes!

OK, guess I made a mistake. I had tried to shut down PS and restart it, but that did not work. However, when I shutdown my PC and restarted it, Generative fill was available. Sorry if I bothered anyone.
