Question

Photoshop Select Subject Misses small dots along the bottom of the image

Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.4.0 20260218.r.15 6bd4063  x64 (final, Release)
Operating System: Windows 11 64-bit

Select subject has been improved in a recent update but now misses small artifacts along the bottom edge of the frame. They are small but large enough to affect the resulting image.

Select Subject is not seeing those bits as part of the subject. The easiest way to fix this is to add to the selection with any of the Selection tools.

    • Shift plus using a selection tool adds to the selection
    • Option (Alt) plus using a selection tool subtracts from the selection

Try Shift plus drag with a marquee or lasso tool

    Thanks very much Jane.

I have been creating a mask and using the brush tool on the spots.

In the past there have been similar bugs with select subject leaving a line at the bottom of the image, so I expect it’s a bug they will be able to fix.

Hey, @mattg55428349. Thanks for bringing this up. To better understand this:

    1. Do you see a repeating pattern in the selection outputs?
    2. Does this happen with images for all resolutions and bit depths (8/16/32)?
    3. Do the results vary if you use Select Subject Cloud & device modes?

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

    Hi Sameer,

No repeating pattern. It’s random. If you run it several times on the same image the results will differ.

It happens on all bit depths. Again the results seem to be random.

It appears on both cloud and device mode.
