The eraser tool does not erase the alpha channel when transparency is locked

Erasing on a transparent layer (besides the background layer) doesn’t erase the alpha, but “draws” with the background color. This is an outdated/unwanted result and should be deprecated. All modern illustration apps will erase the alpha regardless of whether transparency is locked for that layer (except the background layer). Otherwise, using the lasso tool to “cut” a layer with locked transparency should fill that area with the background color. As a developer, I find this inconsistency sloppy coding for such a popular app.🤔

This is not a bug, this is how the tool is intended to work. If you want it to work differently, post is as a feature request.

The eraser tool, as a destructive pixel tool, is in itself a bit outdated and isn’t really used much nowadays. A much more flexible and efficient way to achieve the same result is to use layer masks and paint with black on the mask.
