Can't directly edit text on screen

Steps to reproduce:
    1. Copy a graphic and paste it somewhere else on the timeline (to change text without chaning font of positioning).

  2. Select Text tool from toolbar

  3. Click text on main program screen
 
Result: ...Nothing happens
Expected: ...Text lights up in red box for editing.

Workaround:

In effect controls or Properties, click on the Text line item. Then the text becomes editable on screen.
