Caption language defaulting from English to German

What version of PR are you using?

Note that the language is set at the transcription step. Captions are created from the transcription.

In the newer version of PR, you can transcribe Source media or Sequences. If you use the Autotranscription option for Source media (all clips imported or only those added to sequences), you are asked when turning this on what language to use as the default. If you set the wrong language (or set it to Autodetect and that is not working), change it in Preferences (Edit -> Preferences -> Transcription).

You are also not asked for the language if you add an untranscribed source to a sequence and click on the Transcribe button that appears in the Text panel.

There are multiple ways to Re-transcribe a clip. The easiest option if you have multiple clips to re-transcribe is in the Project Panel. First, set the default Transcription language to the language you want. Select all the clips you need, right-click, and pick re-transcribe.  You will get the dialogue box that allows you to set language but it should already use your preferred language. If you do not set the preference first, no matter, you can change it in that dialogue. But that will not change the default for future transcriptions.
