Default of "Import Into Project" is a problem

Steps to reproduce:
1. Export a clip.

2. Discover an issue, fix it and export the clip again (direct export, without AME) to the same file name

3. Premier acts wonky, doesn't immediately throw the warning that the clip exists.

4. Go to File Explorer, delete the clip

5. Export again. Now Premier warns that the clip exists in the project (after faililng to find the clip and throwing up the find-a-clip dialog (set to offline).

6. Go to bin and delete the now-missing clip

7. Discover that the setting to Import into Project is set on by default

8. Go digging for that and finally find it under "General."

 

Now will it stay off, or will it reset in the next project???

 

Import into project should be default OFF, and a more prominent button to turn it on should be on top level of export dialog.

Regarding the "wonky" in step 3, I am not seeing this in 3 repetitions. When I export the second time, PR "suggests" [original name]_1.mp4. If I edit this to drop the "_1," it asks me to confirm the overwrite (I think you re saying this works okay), and as soon as I click "export," PR refuses with the "exists in project; choose another name" message. This is true even if I send to AME.

 

Yes, before the "new" (not so new anymore) Export mode screen, Import to Project was always on the screen. But it was in the bottom - everything can't be at the top and emphasized - and yes, I sometimes forgot it was "on."

 

I prefer a new name for each export, but generally editing the name to be more meaningful. So I had not noticed how frustrating it could be if you don't intend the import.

Hi @MisterAdvent ,

Thanks for highlighting it. "Import Into Project" setting is by default disabled in Premiere. Once you enable it, it remains like this even for new projects you create. Same happens after disabling it. 
We haven't heard many complaints on this from our users. Let us know what you think.
