Direct Manipulation re-enables itself when selecting linked videos

  •  When Direct Manipulation is manually disabled, the setting does not persist when selecting clips that contain linked audio and video. reselecting a linked A/V clip or selecting a different A/V clip, Direct Manipulation re-enables itself without user input.

  • This behavior appears to be specific to linked audio/video clips. I cannot reproduce it with unlinked video-only clips or still images, where Direct Manipulation remains disabled once you disable them while selected as expected.
  1. Import a video file that has audio linked.
  2. Add the clip to a sequence as a linked audio/video clip.
  3. Enable Direct Manipulation.
  4. Disable Direct Manipulation.
  5. Reselect the linked audio/video clip. (or any other linked video)

Expected Result:
Direct Manipulation remains disabled until it is manually re-enabled by the user.

Actual Result:
Direct Manipulation re-enables itself after reselecting the linked video or any other linked video on the timeline.

Additional Testing:

  • Unlinked video-only clips: Cannot reproduce.
  • Still images: Cannot reproduce.
  • The issue appears to occur only with clips that have linked audio and video.

    Hi @BeratGL

Thanks for your thorough report! I’m able to reproduce the issue in-house and have opened a ticket to investigate a fix. I’ll update this ticket when a fix is available to try in the beta.

    Cheers,
    Theresa

    Hi @Theresa Rostek

I noticed an additional behavior that may help narrow down the root cause.

It appears that Direct Manipulation is not only re-enabling itself, but it is also automatically disabling itself when audio clips are selected. After that, reselecting footage, images, or other visual clips does not re-enable it without user input.

This seems related to the original issue, as Direct Manipulation appears to be changing state based on the selected clip type rather than preserving the user's chosen setting.

Thank you for looking into this!
