Dropdown Menus Can No Longer Be Changed Using the Mouse Wheel

 Previously, when the mouse cursor was on a dropdown menu, scrolling the mouse wheel allowed the user to cycle through and select the available options. This functionality no longer appears to work.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Hover the mouse cursor over the dropdown menu.
  2. Scroll the mouse wheel.

Expected Result

Scrolling the mouse wheel while hovering over the dropdown menu should allow the user to cycle through the available options and change the selected value.

Actual Result

Scrolling the mouse wheel does not change or navigate through the options in the dropdown menu.

 

Impact

Zoom and preview resolution menus now go 1 frame forward/backward upon scroll and blend modes on both ECP and Properties panel can’t be changed by scrolling anymore. I haven’t tested every dropdown menu but issue seems to be global across all dropdown menus.

      Yes, I wasn’t seeing things. This is now becoming a big problem. ​@Homosolus said it right:

      “You’re fixing a problem that DOESN’T EXIST”

      It should be put back the way it was.

        ​@TeresaDemel Never in my 8 years of using the software have I accidentally changed it once. You have to deliberately hover over the menu and scroll for that to happen. It’s not like these menus stop the scrolling process if you start from an empty area. You’re fixing a problem that DOESN’T EXIST. I don't think this is nearly as confusing as Adobe seems to think it is. And this is the amount of backlash you’re getting over a change in a beta build. Let’s wait until it makes it to stable and see what the customers think.

              This doesn’t make sense. For instance the Blend Mode in Effect Controls, right now on v27.1 v7, I can’t change a blending mode unless I click to open the drop-down, then click say the next option in line. Before at least we were able to keyboard scroll thru the list one at a time, and they would change so one can compare different modes. 

              Why is that gone?

                Thank you for flagging this, ​@BeratGL. I appreciate your taking the time to flag this as an inefficiency in your workflow. We can’t support your desired behavior because it causes too many mistakes when customers are scrolling. As an example, when a video editor is scrolling through a panel and accidentally chooses a different font, it can take them by surprise and they don’t know what happened, nor how to return to their original setting. I need to prioritize removing features that cause confusion. I will be closing this issue.

                I understand the reasoning behind this, but there are cases on panels like the Program Monitor where there’s no scrolling involved and we can quickly switch between resolution settings using the mouse wheel. If the concern is users accidentally changing things like fonts while scrolling, I think it would make much more sense to address those specific cases rather than going full nuclear and removing the behavior from every dropdown menu.

                I understand the goal, but removing a useful behaviour for everyone because some users may accidentally change an option doesn’t seem like the ideal solution. Premiere is a professional software.
