Mask Path Keyframes Not Animating in Premiere Pro Beta (v25.6.0)

Description: I’m experiencing a bug in the current Premiere Pro Beta (version 25.6.0) related to manual masking and keyframe animation.

When I draw a mask using the Pen tool or shape tools and attempt to animate it using Mask Path keyframes, the mask does not respond to changes. Even after enabling the stopwatch and adjusting the mask on different frames, the animation does not register—both keyframes remain identical, and the mask stays static.

I’ve confirmed this behavior in multiple projects and tried the following workarounds:

  • Toggling the Mask Path stopwatch
  • Manually adjusting the mask shape on different frames
  • Using different effects (Gaussian Blur, Lumetri Color)
  • Resetting workspaces and preferences

None of these resolved the issue. It seems the new masking system in the Beta is not properly linking manual mask adjustments to keyframe animation.

System Info:

  • Premiere Pro Beta v25.6.0
  • Windows 11 Pro 64
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop

This bug is blocking my workflow, especially for subtle object masking in low-resolution footage. I’d appreciate any updates or guidance on a fix.

Thank you for your support!

The clip and frame mode options are so unnecessarily confusing

Having the same issues in v 26.0.0.  Keyframing the path of a pen mask won't actually save the moved path.  I’ve had to open Pr 2025 to do what I need on the one video and then import that edited video back into 2026 to keep working on the project.

EDIT: Frame mode suggestion from Ann (below) solved it!

But...why? Don't let me put keyframes if they wont work. This is not a good design, they should block keyframe addition and show some message like "change to frame mode to use keyframes".

For animating masks manually you need to be in FRAME mode (program monitor)

Same issue here. Unable to manually adjust regular pen mask path keyframing, which is super unfortunate. Hope they update it really soon.

On your program monitor there’s 2 buttons at the bottom, Clip and Frame.  Select Frame and bam, it works!
