Media Browser not showing previews in Beta 26.0.0 build 27 and latest (28)

The media browser hangs on 'processing'. It shows file icons, but no previews as usual. Obviously this is quite annoying when you work with lots of files. Import files and drag/drop still works, so there's a workaround, but workarounds are so beta!
