Updated to the latest Beta of PP this morning and the timeline does not start playing when hitting the Spacebar; well; sometimes it does, 98% it does not start playback

I was optimistic when I found this thread, but unfortunately, this doesn't seem resolved.

I had a user who had a relatively simple project file that had been created by a different user in 25.

She had been on 24.6.4 (Build 3), and then needed to upgrade to 25.1.0 to use it. Then this problem of freezing, crashing, and playing or pausing started.

Sometimes, after a full system reboot it would be OK for a few minutes, but then after a few minutes, it would deteriorate to unusable.

Tried all the normal troubleshooting steps: full system reboot, cleared preferences, media cache, etc., copied the content form the old .prproj out to a totally new .prproj file via Dynamic Link Manager, etc. Also tried Beta Version 25.3, because of this thread, to no avail.

The only thing thing to get this system going again was to export to FCP XML just to be able to import over into 24.6.4 (Build 3) again.

    This is on:

    Model: iMac (24-inch, M1, 2021)
    OS Version: 15.3.1
    System Version: macOS 15.3.1 (24D70)

It seems like this might be related to: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-beta-bugs/timeline-performance-problems-since-25-2-0-build-50/idi-p/15034753

Help! We can use 24 for this particular project but the editor will be receiving more 25 projects files from other collaborators in the future. Happy to DM an Adobe any additional information that might help.

I'm not in Beta release as I tried that and the same thing kept happening with that as well.

I'm a little lost at the first step in recovering log files...can you be more specific? Is this in the Terminal? In Premiere Pro?

    1. Use the hamburger menu in the Console view to get to the Debug Database

    Hi @jmro

They will be in your Prefs if you're using a current version of Beta, today's version is 25.2 x 95.

Are you in Beta or release?

Also the logs I'm looking for need to be enabled by a debug flag in the Console 😞

    1. Use the hamburger menu in the Console view to get to the Debug Database

    2. Search for "Create"

    3. Set "CreateLogFilesThatDoNotExist" to "true"

    4. Relaunch the app

    5. Get into the state where your playback is lagging

    6. Reveal log files...

I think this should get us the log files that will be helpful.

    @DaciaSaenz

Media Intelligence & Transcripts - is not even an option in my preferences.

I have logs and screen grabs, should I just post them here? For logs do you need the whole folder "SentryIO-db"?

This is happening again! I leave the app and come back and all playback and RAM preview are just gone and nothing in the preview window works. I can still edit the timeline and all that, but without seeing what Im doing its pretty pointless.  At times I come back to the app and drag the playhead and the preview moves and then just locks, so it is working for a second when I come back to it. I have to quit the app and reopen in order to get it working and remember NOT to leave the app.

I have reset my preferences. I have deleted my cache. I have tried everything and nothing is working....again.

Thank you so much for your quick response @jmro
And very happy to hear that you are not experiencing this issue anymore.

@DaciaSaenz  This issue is no longer reproducible. I noticed it happening for about a week or two, and now its not happening anymore. I can leave the app and come back and playback is acting as it should. I did not do anything to preferences or download different versions, it just works now.

    Im on version 25.1

    Specs:

    Macbook Pro M1 Max

    Sequoia 15.1.1

    64 GB memory.

Please let me know how else I can help. If this happens again I will reach out and save logs, try the media intelligence feature and screen record.

    Thank you!

    @jmro

That's not cool! I'd love to help you get to the bottom of things.
    First things first...

    • Can you please share your system specs, GPU, and OS version?
    • Can you reproduce this issue in the latest release version of Premiere Pro 25.1
    • Can you please share a log so devs can take a peek for any suspicious clues?
      • Start an app session
      • Get into the bad playback state
      • Navigate to Help > Reveal Log Files and send those files over.
    • Screen Recordings also help a great deal to be able to see what panels you have open, etc

Out of curiosity, have you tried the new Media Intelligence feature

    • Can you please go into Prefs > Media Intelligence & Transcripts and turn Visual Analysis off by unchecking the box?
    •

    • Does this improve playback?

Thanks for reporting this issue and for any further detail you can provide,

Beta has not fixed the issue for me.

It works fine when I first open the app, but as soon as I use another app and come back, it breaks again and again.
