Playback will not update while timeline refreshes thumbnails on clips.

Every time I change the timeline scale, it's regenerating the clip-previews on the timeline.  The problem is, the playback window is frozen until this completes, and it's taking 15-20 seconds each time I rescale the timeline, causing significant delays.
