Premiere Pro Beta - BIG ISSUES November 2023 - BEWARE unless you enjoy re-work

I have a 15min project that needs final tweeks. I edited the entire thing in Premiere Pro Beta - excited to save time on the text based editing stuff. Now at the finish line, dissolves show up on the timeline - but they do NOT work. So now I have to go through and redo all of them. ALL OF THEM. Music changes every 30 - 60 sec. LOTS of sound design. WTF! What would be a few quick changes is going to take me all afternoon. This is the second time this has happened (the first was yesterday and I figured it was just a one-off project file issue but nope).  I used Beta for a similar project last week with zero issues.

Also, when you go to change the label color of one clip it changes it for ALL of the clips referenced in that file.

Please, for the love of god, help

@Steven3319948030ab I just heard word that what you're experiencing with audio transitions may be related to a Beta bug that has since been resolved in 24.2.0 Beta (Build 25).  This version should be available for you to download and install now, and will hopefully resolve your issue.

This is definitely strange behavior, which sometimes resetting the preferences can resolve.  Hold Command while launching Premiere Pro and a Reset Options dialog will pop up.  You can select "Reset App Preferences."  This will revert many of your user preference back to the defaults, so be sure to reset any of those that your workflow hinges on befroe you continue working after the reset.

Project files are also (for the most part) backwards compatible between subversions.  You could try opening a copy of your project in the non-Beta 24.0 release version.  This would at least help determine whether or not this is an issue with your project itself, or related to the Beta version you are using.

Unchecking "Show Source Clip Name and Label" worked for showing all of my original colors! Woohoo! Now how do I get my dissolves back?

Just want to confirm, if you click on the Wrench menu in your sequence, is Show source clip name and label checked or unchecked?

  • When checked, all instances (track items) of a source clip (project item) display the same color, and match the color of the project item.
  • When unchecked, each track item can be re-assigned its own label color unique from the other instances in the same sequence, and from the project item.

Actually, it does allow me to change to color of each song in the timeline, but I have 20min VO takes that I used to be able to label color coat according to themes, etc. When I open the Beta project they are all the same color. When I change the label color of one media that has been cut and spread out, it changes it for ALL clips that derived from that media. This is a new issue. And when I close down my machine and reopen the next day, all of the voiceover tracks are the same color and all of the sound design are the same color. It's weird.

In what way do they not work? From your description, it seems like they're present/visible in the timeline, but are not getting rendered; is that the case?

>> I believe that is the case. I see them as I left them but they do not ramp the audio up/down - just a hard cut at the end. I can delete and replace them with a new dissolve at the head of clips, and ones on the tails of clips I can delete but they are still visible but not working. The solve is to go through and manually ramp up and down using the pen tool which takes forever. The solve for using dissolves between clips to smooth out is to delete the original on that is not working and replace it with a new one. Also, there is no indicator that anything is needing rendered like a red bar at the top of the timeline, nor is there an option to render the not working dissolves.

If so...how are you 'redo-ing' them?
>>See above

when you go to change the label color of one clip it changes it for ALL of the clips referenced in that file.

I'm not sure whether you're using 'clip' to mean a track item, or a project item...?
> I'm using "clip" to mean a track item. Like if I change the color of one song in the timeline, it changes the color of all songs in my timeline. Same for Voiceover tracks, etc. Using Beta for podcast editing btw (if that helps)

I just tested in PPro beta 24.2x23; changing the label color of a given track item, does NOT change the color of other track items based on the same project item.
>>I am happy for you. I only wish that I had the same experience. I am using Version 24.2.0 BETA (Build 23)

Similarly, changing the label color of a project item does NOT change the color of existing track items, based on that project item; subsequently created track items from that project item, do get the new label color.

Where does that behavior depart, from what you're seeing?
>Happy to answer any more questions but I think that covers it.
