Prin files

I realize this is an older thread but I think the .prin file stores all kinds of info related to AI features in Premiere -- not just media analysis info. So… even when I delete it, or turn off Media Analysis, this file will get recreated again, for example, when I use an AI feature in the Premiere project, such as Scene Edit Detection, or Enhance Sound, or Remix Music, or Auto Reframe to 9x16, etc. I don’t know why anyone would want to NOT use media analysis because it enables the use of the Search panel which is amazing (for me anyway). The .prin file enables faster performance in Premiere, and keeps the Project file itself lighter by storing AI info in a separate sidecar file. If you used any AI features in Pr and then delete that .prin file (or move the project and don't take the .prin file too) then your performance in Pr will be temporarily slower when you re-open that project...while it rebuilds the .prin data so your enhanced speech or remix track or AI Masking effect works correctly every time without having to use more resources to recreate it the next time your playhead hits it. Another way to address this is to choose in Media Analysis Preference Settings to store the sidecar file next to the media file (instead of next to the project). Hope this helps!

The other problem when saving anything next to the project file, is with Productions, where we’re told to only have project files in the Production folder. I have a 3rd party program that saves files next to the project… PIA.

@Shebbe I hear you, there is definitely some friction in having this .prin file separate, but next to, the project file. Given the constraints we had when building this feature, it made the most sense for most people to put it where we did.

That said, we are working on further improvements to this whole workflow that I hope will address your problems. Nothing I can say yet, stay tuned!

I'd like to add a question/request to that. We actually are interested in using the index data on some projects but the problem with the file being stored next to project is that versioning up your proj files and moving your old one to old now involves also always moving the prin file as well otherwise it adds up in the main proj location.

Would it be an idea to have it in it's own folder? Just like autosaves, caches etc. or perhaps embedded into the pproj file itself?
