THE CHANGES TO THE MASK TOOL ARE TERRIBLE. BROKE THE TOOL

I have been editing in premiere for 10+ years and this might be the worst update ive seen. Keyframes for the  mask tool dont work at all. The AI mask tool doesnt work at all and it broke the whole tool. I cant even do a simple hand animated mask. Adobe is way too big of a company for there to be problems like this with essential tools that we've had for decades. These are the things that make me want to abandon these programs. It is my fault I started this project in the beta version though i guess. Cant even revert to another version.

ya, the new masking is terrible.

It blows my mind why they didn’t update it to simply be exactly how After Effects does it.

Do they not talk to other departments at Adobe?

Many Premiere users are comfortable with masking in AE because that’s what we’ve been using for years.

This new way takes extra clicks, doesn’t work half the time, and even if you select the keyframes and make a change with the mask, it doesn’t update, or make new keyframes. It’s honestly terrible.

They need to scrap it all, and just do exactly what AE does for masking.

The masking ‘engine’ in Premiere is now the one in Ae … just the controls are a bit different. And using it was not obvious to me.  It took me some fiddling and re-reading the Help to get it down, but for the most part, it’s a ton better. I track like people walking down a beach or whatnot … and it’s often even catching one person going behind another completely.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

In order to animate/keyframe a mask it needs to be in Frame node not clip mode

You can't move it manually now. It doesn't create a keyframe.

You can't change the shape dinamically.

You have to animate it by touching the x - y coordinates manually.

Adobe should try their changes before publishing a new version.

You can revert to 25.5, but the mask feature will be broken. You will have to do them again.

Reverting is done by editing the project file.
