Share for Review Improvements
Share for Review is good, but could be great.
- Make a review annotation clickable. For example, if I was scrolling through my .indd file and saw an annotation left in Review by someone else, I could click on it and it'd snap to that comment in the Review panel.
- Create Review comments in InDesign. Am I missing something here, or is the only way to make comments in the Share for Review link? That seems crazy. It'd be nice to be able to make comments there AND in InDesign or whatever other app.
- Ability to add others to the Review even when you're not the Review owner. I'm a designer on an .indd file and wanted to add someone to the review so I could tag them in comments. The Review file had been set to "anyone with the link", but I can't tag them in comments. I want to add these individuals specifically by email, but I can't because I'm not the Review owner, so I can't tag them in comments until the Review owner adds them. Or I wish there was a setting, similar to CC Libraries, where you can set it to "Anyone within the Company" for company licenses.
- Review panel in InCopy. Our editors currently aren't able to see Review comments and annotations in InCopy, they have to go to the browser link. Feels like that could be streamlined.
- "Replace text" function in Review should actually replace text. If an editor uses the "Replace Text" in Review, I should be able to see that in InDesign/InCopy and have an option to click "Apply" so that the suggested edit auto-populates the desired area and the comment auto-resolves. (With undo/redo functions, or "highlight changes" function, of course.)
- Draw a shape should include the ability to click/drag a rectangle or circle, not just freehand options. It'd be nie to highlight visual areas in Review, not just text.
- Improved notifications. It'd be sweet if there was integration to recieve Review comment notifications through extensions with Google Workspace, Google Chat, Slack, etc. I get the email notifications which is good, but could be better.
- "Save as" override is scary. I hate that if someone doesn't follow our saving procedures, we could lose all Review comments and annotations. In Save As, there should be an option to choose to migrate the Review (with the same link) to the new saved document or to keep it with the old one. At the very least, a warning message would be good.
- Placeholder images. Okay this is probably a stretch, but it'd be cool to be able to drop in/suggest a placeholder image as part of Review. That's a big aspect of my workflow and I have yet to figure out a streamlined way to suggest art/illustrations/photography in a non-commital way. Saving out pdfs/mockups/screenshots of mockup suggestions is not very efficient.
I'm still new to Share for Review, so if any y'all have any suggestions or solutions, please hit me with it! Excited to learn more. This is a great tool that's already been super helpful and can't wait for more improvements.
