Feature Request: Add a “Lock Brush Order” option to the Brushes Panel

For many years, Photoshop brushes remained in their assigned position unless the user deliberately changed their order through the appropriate editing functions.

More recently, Photoshop introduced the possibility of rearranging brushes directly in the Brushes Panel using drag and drop. While this is convenient when intentionally reorganizing brushes, it also creates a significant problem: brushes can be moved accidentally simply by dragging them unintentionally.

This happens quite easily during normal work, especially when the Brushes Panel contains many brushes. An accidental drag can completely change the carefully organized order of a brush collection, and restoring the previous arrangement can take a considerable amount of time.

Suggested solution

Please add a simple “Lock Brush Order” option to the Brushes Panel, for example as a checkbox or a small lock icon.

When the option is enabled:

• Brushes cannot be moved by drag and drop.

• The existing order of the brushes is preserved.

• Clicking and dragging a brush would simply select it, without changing its position.

When the user wants to reorganize the brushes, they could simply:

1. Disable “Lock Brush Order”.

2. Rearrange the brushes using drag and drop.

3. Enable “Lock Brush Order” again.

This would preserve the convenience of drag and drop while eliminating accidental changes to carefully organized brush libraries.

In short: please give users the choice between an editable brush order and a locked brush order.

This would be a very small interface addition, but it would prevent a surprisingly frustrating problem for users who have spent years building and organizing their Photoshop brush libraries.
