Trackpad support in MacOS killed mouse support

With the recent trackpad support in the MacOS version of Substance Designer, the mouse controls are now different than in Windows and downgraded in my opinion:

-The scroll wheel scrolls up and down instead of zooming in and out in GRAPH, 2D VIEW and 3D VIEW. This is completely useless. Graphs are usually horizontal, not vertical, so moving up and down just makes us lose focus on the nodes we’re working on. Same for the 2D view, it’s more useful to zoom in and out and pan around rather than scrolling.

I understand that the trackpad works better like this, but most professional users use mice. Please give us the option to switch the mouse controls to work like before instead of making us hold the Cmd key the whole day to zoom.

Thank you!

Hello,

I understand this is frustrating. Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this issue on my MacBook Pro (14-inch 2021, Apple M1 Max, macOS 25.6 Tahoe) with an external mouse. (Logitech G403)

With the trackpad support improvements, there were changes to what and how mouse events are interpreted in the interface.

To eliminate the possibility of this not playing nicely with drivers/custom mouse behaviours, please try reproducing the issue with the simplest 3-button mouse you have access to.

Best regards.

Hi Luca, thanks for your reply! I tried with a very simple USB mouse and also tried bluetooth mice of different brands, but the problem persists.

I guess if you don’t have that issue, it must be on the software side for me. I don’t think I use anything fancy to change my mouse behavior except the “Scroll Reverser” app that lets me use natural scroll on trackpads and regular scroll on mice. I tried disabling it but that didn’t fix it.

In case it’s useful, I’m using an M4 Max Macbook Pro with MacOS Tahoe 26.6.
