Viewer currently has a size limit of 4,096 x 4,096 pixels.  This limitation should be removed or increased to accomodate large resolution and print work.  Photoshop's limit is 300,000 x 300,000 pixels.

Graphics rendering applications can be memory intensive, and 3D as a media type is traditionally more demanding on memory.  The 4,096 x 4,096 size limit was put in place to prevent crashes on devices that were running out of memory.

The team is investigating multiple ways to address this so that we can increase the maximum size without causing lower end devices with less memory to crash frequently.
