Marker Idea

Hi Adobe Audition team,

I hope this message finds you well.

I would love it if one day Adobe audition markers could work the same as Adobe Premiere markers (you can change the colour, add comments in them etc)

Would this be possible one day?

Thanks

No worries, just thought I'd mention it as a suggestion/idea for the idea forum panel. I'm not I.T literate and just noticed it was a cool process that Premiere has that I thought may be good to emulate into Audition 🙂 I appreciate your time, thanks.

It's very easy to make a request like this, and on the face of it you might think it was going to be simple to implement, but it very rarely is...

One problem with it is that you would also need the only other software suite that I'm aware of that can read Audition's markers (iZotope RX) to have to update their software as well. And if you think about it, it would be difficult to implement, anyway. What, for instance, would you do with markers that were close together when you zoom out? What colour would they be? Also, you'd have to take account of marker ranges somehow, and what you'd do about additional range markers placed within a marker range that was already one colour that you then wanted to be different. And then you'd have to take account of the absolute need for reverse compatibility, which may not be as simple as you think...

The size issue - well that's inevitable, and we've been there before. You can put markers incredibly close to each other, and that is why the highlighting scheme is in place. If marker texts overlap, then passing the mouse over them forces the one on top of to bring all of its text into vision over any adjacent ones. Nobody's ever come up with anything better that would work universally.

Unfortunately these are the sorts of considerations that you have to take account of for any innovation in the software, but especially one that messes around with an existing protocol. It's really not simple.

Nice to meet you SteveG. Sorry I don't know how it really works.

For me the feature would streamline my process better. Although the current markers work, they can overlap each other with the text if too close.

The reason I desire the feature is because when I send my recordings to clients, I can more efficiently label them

For example:

The first marker can be highlighted as blue to represent multiple takes of the same line.

The next marker could be highlighted as red to represent an error in my client's script.

A green marker could represent that I am not sure I have spoken the word correctly, and I can highlight/see it for the client more easily.

A purple marker could be a marker to split the file.

Right now all the markers are exactly the same which is not useful in my opinion.

Sometimes a client will request to revisit an old voiceover delivery, and by having this marker system in place I can quickly navigate to any takes they want me to edit/remove rather than taking my time to comb through them. It's not urgent, but it would certainly be helpful in my case.

I can see little value, if any, in adding colour to markers - what would that actually achieve? And as for comments...

(Also, we're not the Audition team - we're the U2U group. We find that we have precious little, if any, influence on feature additions)
