P: DNG Converter should be installable and updated by Creative Cloud

I would like to request that the Adobe DNG Converter be installable, updated, and managed directly through the Creative Cloud Desktop application.

Currently, DNG Converter is distributed as a separate manual download that requires users to periodically check for updates, download installers, and manage version control outside the Creative Cloud ecosystem. This creates unnecessary friction, especially for photographers and workflows that depend on timely camera-profile updates.

Integrating DNG Converter into Creative Cloud would provide several benefits:

  • Automatic Updates: Ensure compatibility with newly released cameras without requiring manual monitoring.

  • Consistent Workflow Management: Allow users to manage all Adobe photography tools from a single interface.

  • Improved Security and Reliability: Reduce the risk of running outdated versions due to missed manual updates.

  • Better Enterprise Deployment: Simplify administration for organizations that rely on Creative Cloud for software lifecycle management.

DNG Converter remains an important bridge tool for many Lightroom and archival workflows. Bringing it into the Creative Cloud update model would align it with the rest of the Adobe photography ecosystem and significantly improve usability.

Thank you for considering this enhancement.

The DNG Converter is not part of CC and is available to users who don’t have a CC plan or login. I suspect that’s why it isn’t included.

I think an alternative solution from the Adobe Product Managers would be to include a standard check for updates functionality in the DNG Converter.   It is entirely manual today which falls outside proven practices for software design and customer safety and satisfaction.  It is reasonable to understand why it is the way it is today but they need to do better!  They could even duplicate it and essentially provide exactly the same software through Creative Cloud and manually.  Today for the most users of the Adobe ecosystem Creative Cloud even if you use it only for installing and updating software is normal.   There is little good justification to keep DNG Converter on an island by itself.  However they solve the problem they should improve it from where it sits today.
