P: Support for Canon .CR3 Camera-matching Profiles

There is currently zero support for .CR3 camera color profiles in Lightroom... especially since the newer Canon cameras use a .CR3 format... making it difficult to get work done. Only slightly surprised that this wasnt planned for beforehand since there still isnt a 64bit version of the adobe programs that i can use on the most current version of MacOS.

The answer given by Adobe is not helpful from a user's point of view. Request to come with an update for minimum Landscape and Portraits, which perhaps needs the maximum dynamic range of the camera matching profiles.

Seen a common profile by the Capture team, though that doesn't gives as precise as DPP.

Few third parties have released somewhat equal already and very keep to know the constraints for Adobe to resolve the matter, as Canon R5 is a game-changer is widely getting acceptable and getting popular. adobe must understand the potential migration possibilities of users to capture one and Affinity, for these small reasons. Note that, majority of Fuji and Sony users have already migrated.

Native Color profile? If you are asking for Color Matching Profiles;

Support for a particular flavor of a camera’s raw file does not necessarily mean that there will be Camera Matching profiles for that camera at the time of raw file support. It is normal for Camera Matching profiles to follow raw support by one or two releases. In the case of some camera manufacturers or the event of major changes by a particular manufacturer, that time may be greatly increased.

Note: Not all cameras will ever receive a set of Camera Matching profiles. ”

Pretty easy and free to create your own custom camera profiles for different illuminants, those are not however “camera matching profiles” like supplied for some camera bodies.

When Adobe will be updating the native color profile in RAW processing for canon EOS R5.

At the moment, it is only provided with adobe color profiles, which kills the photograph.

The majority of my business is art documentation and prints. In other words, accurate color management is extremely important to my workflow.  I recently replaced my 5Dsr bodies with an R5.  The Adobe Standard profile with the R5 requires far less editing (sometimes none) than any other camera/profile combo that I've used before.  I've been using Lightroom since 2008.  Adobe/Canon must be doing something right!

With previous Canon bodies where Adobe provides camera matching profiles alongside their Adobe profiles... the camera matching profiles are usually quite close to the Adobe equivalent.  If you're expecting some some massive change when Adobe release camera matching profiles for the R5, I fear you may be disappointed.

The colour profiles in Lightroom don’t work at all for Canon R5. The photos look absolutely awful.

I’ve spoken to many R5 owners who have made a switch to Capture One who offer beautiful profiles for the R5.

Unfortunately I’m very heavily invested in Adobe products and my whole workflow is Adobe based so I would prefer to not have to change software.

When will you bring out profiles for the R5?

The product in terms of these profiles isn't keeping up with your needs. I'm a Canon shooter too; I absolutely do not need my raws to mimic a camera JPEG. Or I'd shoot JPEG.

Maybe indeed, you need a different product.

Adobe of course can choose to ignore the request. The history suggests that's the case.

Again, if this is a major issue, you should look elsewhere or find a profile solution which again, does exist.

Let’s use a bit of critical thinking about this issue.

Examine the date of the first request for these profiles here. It hasn’t happened. Adobe is aware of the request as evidence of Adobe employees posting.

Adobe never promised the profiles.

There are two possibiltes to examine:

1. There are technical issues in producing canned (generic) profiles for this line of cameras. While other companies may do so, it may not be up to Adobe’s standards or how they process raw data or not possible due to how the process raw data. As such, Adobe is not willing to provide profiles that will cause more harm than good.

2. Adobe can do this, they are going out of their way to upset a subset of their customer base.

One makes sense and we were told the new raw format is problematic.

The other is a massive stretch without a lick of evidence.

Remember years and years ago when Nikon decided to encrypt White Balance, crippling Adobe’s raw converters and all others? It didn’t go well for Nikon.

Maybe Canon shooters should also voice complaints to Canon, about the new proprietary raw format and ALL proprietary raw formats that always get reverse enginered.

Same for me! I didn’t buy the R5 yet since I don’t want to deal with the same workflow issues I have with the 1DX3.  I’m back to using my 1DX2 just to ease the workflow.

@Fishweasel And I hope they read this feedback. But of course, I'd hope the same Adobe people don't dismiss it as NOT being an issue because there are people in these forums who keep saying over and over:

- Adobe didn't promise anything, deal with it, and

- It's so easy. do it yourself.
