Option to Remove Cached Data from SPP Files

We would like to use Substance Painter for our team, but have been unable convince leadership due to the size of the SPP project files. One SPP can easily be 800Mb to 1Gb, and if you're storing 100's or 1000's of these files, that quickly becomes completely impractical.

However, we have noticed that much of this file size is due to substance storing cache data within the project file itself. This includes:

 - A copy of the selected Environment Map, even if it is a non-project resource.

 - Cached texture outputs and intermediaries for layers.

 - Re-bakable Mesh Maps

Removing this data as shown in videos like this lowers file size by 6-8x without losing any information.

This cache data can be stored locally on each user's computer, and re-generated on first open. Can this setting please be considered? Otherwise, there's not really a way for us to use the tool at our studio. The SPP files just take too much space.

Hello @kleptine,

In addition to the video shared here, we have a page dedicated to why .SPP can become big and how to mitigate it.

Storing cache data locally is something that has been talked about many time, but we have currently no plans to share on this subject.

I know how constraining large files can become, but storing all these resources also allows to keep a completely autonomous and non desctructive project.

Best regards,
