P: Add Search to Develop Module

Hello,

I have a feature request that would save a LOT of back and forth when selecting and processing images in LR.  Can you please add the search feature to the Develop module so that we don't have to keep switching back and forth between the Library module to search/select an image to edit and then click on the Develop module to actually begin editing.  By adding the search feature to the Develop module it would reduce the time/clicks to find/select and begin editing.

Thanks,
Randy

dj_paige: I consider this irrelevant. Either your suggested improvement has enough merit to be implemented, or it does not. The qualifications of the suggestor don't really make a difference.

FWIW ... the qualifications of the poster are completely relevent in their understanding of how things work.  Also, FWIW, your replies come off as condescending, obnoxious and a god complex as you feel you are a gate keeper for The Grand Wizard Adobe. If you don't have any real feedback other than to spout negative garbage, just don't respond to posts.

We can't because we don't know what the final images are until the orders come in, which can span days/couple of weeks.  If you go shoot a session, you come back and you probably pick the favorites all at once and then process those.  We provide our clients the option for us to select the image(s) for their order or they can select them.  We don't process anything until it has been selected.  Volume is a different beast and workflows have to be as efficient as possible because every click gets multiplied very quickly to large numbers.

I don't consider this to be enough explanation for me to understand. Whether or not it is enough explanation for Adobe to understand is a different issue.

By the way, just so you  know, my Adobe forum profile may say beginner because I have rarely used the forums, but I have over 30 years in the tech industry from programming in numerous languages to my role as a Chief Technology Officer for an international company.  I am a Master Photographer and have been honing these processes for over a decade and am always looking for ways to improve the process.

We have to do this for every single order and when you are dealing with hundreds of orders for a single league and you have many leagues you shoot, you can see where it adds up in time

And do you create separate collections in your catalog for those separate league's? Better yet, smart collections using the keyword associated to a particular league. Instead of looking at the entirety of your catalog, look in a collection for the particular customer, the particular league.  And while in a collection, flag the winners so you can filter on just the ones to develop.

So, @RBrogen I would like to understand better why you can't do what I explained in your workflow, it's not clear to me why you can't. If Adobe is going to implement your idea, a much more detailed and complete explanation of why my method won't work in your workflow, with examples, is needed.

Hello,

I have a feature request that would save a LOT of back and forth when selecting and processing images in LR.  Can you please add the search feature to the Develop module so that we don't have to keep switching back and forth between the Library module to search/select an image to edit and then click on the Develop module to actually begin editing.  We shoot volume in one of our divisions and as orders come in, we have to go into the Library Module, search for the image, then click Develop module to actually start working.  We have to do this for every single order and when you are dealing with hundreds of orders for a single league and you have many leagues you shoot, you can see where it adds up in time and clicks very quickly.  Unlike shooting other genres like weddings, seniors etc, we can't go in and select our final images because we have to wait for the clients to make their selections and place their orders before we work on them.  By adding the search feature to the Develop module it would reduce the time/clicks to find/select and begin editing.

Thanks,
Randy

Place this request in the Ideas section of the Lightroom Classic forum. Please make sure you give concrete examples of the benefit.

(As for me, I don't see the need for this, you select the photos you want to work on in the Library Module, you can put them in a collection or quick collection, and then select the collection or quick collection, and switch to the develop module — now you can move through the photos you want to work on without going from Library to Develop to Library to Develop to the kitchen for a snack etc.)

Our workflow differs. For your workflow, you are probably shooting like senior or weddings and you go through, make your selections all at once, create a collection from that and then you work on the collection.  That workflow doesn't necessarily work for volume.  When I created the post it actually asked me if this was an idea so I thought it was in the right place.  I'll check and post it elsewhere if that is the right way to do it.
