An option to select the Floor would be extremely useful especially for studio portrait work in the same way as the background select works.

Try this. Select the floor by dragging a linear gradient over it, then subtract the object(s) or peope standing on the floor. This may work almost as fast as an 'AI floor detection', especially as long as AI isn't as good as we all would want it to be.
