P: Allow for keyboard shortcut customization

Customizable keyboard shortcuts in Lightroom would be great. I just find it so confusing that crop and brush tools and things like that have such odd keyboard shortcuts in Lightroom. I understand that changing that all now would be awful for many existing users, but being able to override them like I can in Photoshop would be helpful. Doesn't anyone else out there find they use to wrong keyboard shortcuts in the wrong program?

@JimButNotHim

You can assign any KBSC or remove them but not those in gray.

Those ones are embedded in the code and unmodifiable not even by MacOs.

E.g I removed the "New Brush Mask (Brush) KSB completely.

Edit

Actually there are some KBSC that inexplicably can't be assigned but @johnrellis is tracking them, consult the plug-in info section "Known limitations and Issues"

Does the plug-in let me remove, or assign no action to, the built-in single key shortcuts?

The phrasing suggests not. "A greyed-out command shortcut cannot be edited since it is hardwired into Lightroom."

That's extremely, disappointing. Why have they downgraded it?

I'm sick of thinking I'm in the field to allocate a keyword, typing a keyword that includes D and finding I'm in the develop model. Other built-in shortcuts are equally annoying. Single-key shortcuts are so non-standard.

Going through your points one by one.

1. To customize your KBSC you can use @johnrellis Any Shortcut plug-in: https://johnrellis.com/lightroom/anyshortcut.htm

2. For the time being you can assign a KBSC to "Select People" or any other Tool tha doesn't have a KBSC

On Mac oS is easy to do using System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts... > App Shortcuts

On Windows you can use the relative KBSC string or assign a KBSC to the command via AutoHotKey free application.

Unfortunately Adobe refused/denied the request to fix and add the missing strings for the Ai tools (Select People, Select Background, Select Sky and Objects) so it is not possible to assign a KBSC using @johnrellis Any Shortcut plug-in.

3. "All Masks" can be deleted Right Clicking on any Mask edit pin.

For some reason we can Reset Healing or Red Eye using right click (when the panel is open) without actually having to actually navigate to any of Red Eye or Healing.

You can download the following Script, assign a KBSC to it so you can delte Masking at any time form develop.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/83vyfx4ro57c8qcf5zbvi/h?rlkey=t62b6oiumpfr6hjv0tdfxhn2a&dl=0

4- You can use People > Facial Skin and Body Skin for that and use any setting you want.

You can apply Point Color locally using those Ai masks for precise skin retouch OR use any settings you want.

I gave up on this one a while ago...  It looks like we're doomed to forever hit Ctrl/0 to change to "Fit" like it works in Photoshop, and we'll continue to have the histogram come and go in Lightroom...  The lack of ability to customize shortcuts after so many years is unfortunate.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography 12 years on; what has happened please?

Whenever I am tagging images, I keep finding that my cursor isn't in the right box and my screeen goes on a demented journey round different modules because astoundingly Lightroom uses single-key shortcuts for all sorts of things.  So non-user-friendly.

For me LrSuperKeys  is my go to plugin. It does not offer customisation for all shortcuts, but mainly for the develop module.

The reason I choose this one is, that it implemented the Speed Edit Key functionality known from Capture One into Lightroom, which is a real timesaver when editing images. It also allows applying presets via shortcuts and has a handy quick menu.

Having the Speed Edit Keys in Lightroom is a game changer. I wish, Adobe would add something similar, since they are planning something for almost 1.5 years now.

Any Shortcut by @johnrellis provides near total kbsc customization.

I wholeheartedly recommend it.
