I think to point to a HD when it has a different letter (quite common if you have your archive in dozens of HDs) would be a much more satisfactory solution that to update all the folders inside the disk. just point to the disk where the files are and let Lightroom find them. I know you can also change the drive letter in the windows disk management area but many times this is not feasible as the letter is already in use by another drive. So please add this feature that will make life much easier to all of us with many drives containing images

I think you are the one who misunderstand me. I'm not saying that an 'automatic reconnect' would not be easier. Of course it would be. I am glad that I use a Mac, so I do not have to deal with these archaic drive letters.

What I am saying is that what you can do right now is to add a top parent folder called 'Disk 20' to the folders on Disk 20. So if you have to reconnect the folders because the drive letter has changed, you'll only have to reconnect that one 'Disk 20' parent folder rather than three folders. That makes it a little faster to reconnect the disk, but you will still have to do that.

I wish it was that easy. But let me put you an example so you understan that this does not work for me. I have 3 different travels to India separated 3 years apart. I have my windows folders as follow. Image Disk 20 Inside there are a top folder called RAWs another one called Tiffs and another one called Jpgs. So I catalog the first year  In Disk 20 (that has also other files) I pick up the folder Raws India1 , The folders Tiffs India1 and Jpgs India1 (thats 3 folders). after that I plug in another disk and do the same with Raws India 2, Tiffs India2 and Jpgs India2.

Now when 1 weeks later I am looking to access photos of India 2 I connect the disk and see it has changed letter so I have to connect to the 3 folders of the new path. It would be much easier to connect to the HD where I know for sure that the files are located to let LR connect to them.

There is an easy way to solve the problem of having to update 'all the folders'. Always make sure that you use a folder hierarchy with one single parent folder. In that case you only need to update that one parent folder; all subfolders will be updated automatically.
