P: Bring back the ability of Enhance to run in the background. (LrC)

I just updated to Lightroom Classic 14.4 and although I do like the fact that I can Denoise without creating a DNG file, I still would like the option to select a series of images and menu: Photo>Enhance... to let it create dngs in the background which enables me to work on other images while it;s doing those. Currently, in 14.4 it takes a long time, especially if I have multiple images that I am denoising and I cannot do anything elese while it's doing that process. Is there still a way possible to do it the old previous way of creating a DNG Denoised file? Seems like an oversight when implementing this new way and slows down my whole workflow.

This new system to batch denoise is horrible it doesn't work.  Says it is on but photo does not look denoised unless I take it off and put it back on each individual photo. Its taken me 2 months now to complete a wedding that should have taken me 2 weeks. Please bring back the option to batch denoise with a dng

Adobe knows. This isn't the first time they have botched an update. Lightroom IMHO has a LOT of UI problems but itsa what we have. Hopefully someone who actually uses this in production will talk some sense into the product managers. But until then we are all just stuck.

@South Coast Diver: "... batch-processing multiple shots for denoise only ... I have not been able to get it to work."

In LR 14.4, you can use Sync Settings, Auto Sync, Copy/Paste, or presets to apply Denoise to multiple photos. Which method have you tried, and what happens when you do?

Well except its buggy and adjusting the slider doesn't work on all supported computers. Also, it doesn't get applied properly in a preset for either ACR or Lightroom. And the whole "adjust one and then sync" workflow is a PITA.

This feature should have failed QA testing.

Agreed. Additionally to the PITA problem, i don't always want to copy all settings including denoise to every photo. I slightly adjust each photo as appropriate and then apply denoise. So if i want a copy and paste of denoise, i then have to first adjust the copy settings to copy only denoise. And then change them all again to exclude it going forward as i copy and paste a base of settings before i tweak.

@Alan Wander

I have a high ISO shot taken with my Nikon Z8 which I Denoised in LrC 14.3.1 to produce an Enhanced-NR DNG file. I then used LrC 14.4 to Denoise the same NEF file using the new non-destructive Denoise. I opened the Denoise DNG, Denoised NEF and Original NEF as layers in Photoshop. The Denoise DNG is at the top of the layer stack, while the Original NEF is at the bottom and the non-destructive Denoised photo is the layer between them.

I changed the Denoise DNG layer's blend mode to Difference and disabled the middle layer, the non-destructive Denoised photo so that the difference between the DNG and the Original photo could be assessed by using a Threshold layer set to 1 at the top of the stack. This shows the smallest differences as white pixels and no difference as black pixels. Here is a screen shot of the result:

As expected, there is a lot of difference. I then enbled the non-destructive Denoised layer so see the difference between the Denoise DNG and the new non-destructive Denoised photo. Here is the result:

Tiny differences.

In reality, I defy anyone to see any difference by eye between the Denoise DNG and the non-destructive Denoised photo.

I will do next week, now I am in press with work. I have to do comparing to the edit for same photo without Ai and i would like to also do with old way of Denoise using DNG file. I used to the same kind of photos what I have done in previous version so I know how good it was comparing to new Ai. So I will provide, but nothing change the fact that we should still be able to choose old way using DNG and as others already mentioned, it is now really faster (yellow update always), results are not the same which cause more focus on batch used denoise to control the output... 😕😕

@ppdix: "why do you need to tweak the Denoise settings? I keep mine at around 80 and it works great. No need to return to change it afterwards."

While editing a photo with Denoise set to 80, define a preset with just Denoise selected. Then you can apply Denoise - 80 to one or more photos just by applying the preset. To apply the preset to a batch of photos, go to Library Grid view, select the photos, and do Quick Develop > Saved Preset > your-preset.

@ppdix: "having to hit that dumb yellow button every time something changes"

This bug doesn't happen for most users, and though many dozens of people have reported the symptoms, Adobe has not yet acknowledged it:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/p-ai-masks-require-updating-and-or-disappear/td-p/15347415

The first reply in that thread has a workaround that helps some but far from all who trip over this.

Add your constructive opinion to that thread, and copy/paste the output from the LR menu command Help > System Info, so Adobe can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set. That thread will be updated when there are any updates from Adobe on the problem.
