P: Bring back the ability of Enhance to run in the background. (LrC)

I just updated to Lightroom Classic 14.4 and although I do like the fact that I can Denoise without creating a DNG file, I still would like the option to select a series of images and menu: Photo>Enhance... to let it create dngs in the background which enables me to work on other images while it;s doing those. Currently, in 14.4 it takes a long time, especially if I have multiple images that I am denoising and I cannot do anything elese while it's doing that process. Is there still a way possible to do it the old previous way of creating a DNG Denoised file? Seems like an oversight when implementing this new way and slows down my whole workflow.

I just updated to 14.5 Saturday and took some wildlife shots this morning. For some time now I've been shooting Auto ISO. Since Denoise I have been happily selecting the 5 or 10 keepers and then running Denoise at 100 as a batch. I just tried doing that today and Denoise will neither automatically manage processing the selected group, nor let me adjust the amount at all, initially! When I let it complete the first 1, there was a message on the screen about using Auto Sync and it finally let me adjust the amount. After adjusting it I tied various things with setting auto sync but nothing happened. Finally I tried manual Sync selecting the 'new' denoise option. I do not consider this an improvement but a 'technical  issue'.

Also, as mentioned before, when Denoising a new image I'd really like to be able to set it to create a DNG file to keep.

I would prefer the destructive new file creation over this image by image denoise. This method has made huge impct on my productivity and has impacted my ability to deliver event images in a timely manner. It has negitivly impacted my business and I will need to move to a new tool in order to have quality TIMELY denoise. A compermise might be that you create a 'Batch Denoise' feature that brings back the DNG option for those who need a more timely solution.

You can always downgrade to a previous version and still work the way you
prefer. I did.

Lightroom is supposed to be a batch editing software that maximizes efficiency, and, yet, the AI denoise completely locks you out of working on other images while running denoise. For one image this isn't that big of a deal. But when you're running a batch it can take 20-30 minutes before you can work on anything else. This is so incredibly inefficient and runs counter to the purpose of the application.

I understand that there may be some technical limitations as to why you can't continue editing, maybe due to the process being resource heavy or needing the image to not be altered while denoise is running, but there has to be a workaround here that allows users to continue to be productive while denoise is running.

After your last update I can no longer batch denoise multiple photos.  Before the update I could select mulltiple photos, right click enhance, and denoise multipe photos. Now when I select multiple photos there is no more right click option, and when I click denoise on the right hand panel , only one photo is processed.

To make matters worse when I search for a solution with LR Cloud I get answers for LR Classic. APparently even Adobe employees get confused by the difference.

Please stop falling backwards on your updates. Maybe let some evelopers goi and save money if they want to make thigns wrose.

Denoise is now a non-destructive edit, like any other edits. It no longer creates a new DNG. That means you can use it in batch the same way as other edits (presets, copy/paste).

Every time I try to use it to denoise a few hundred photos it stops before it finishes and gets stuck and my only option is to cancel it and when you cancel it it doesn't work on any.  I just want them to bring the old way back.  They can have the option for both is some people prefer not created a separate dng because personally I did not mind that.

Thanks John!  I didn't release this was included in Copy/Paste Settings which I just went and tried out.  That does help for me.  I would still prefer the background action but that definately helps.

@Sam Knutson: "WORSE is that you cannot select multiple photos.  ... having to do this photo by photo interactively with a long pause."

You can apply Denoise to a batch of photos that same way you would apply other Develop settings to a batch: With Sync Settings, Copy/Paste Settings, Auto Sync, or using a preset. (But LR still blocks while doing that, which is the original complaint in this thread.)

Making Denoise UI blocking is very frustrating but WORSE is that you cannot select multiple photos.  I could tolerate the blocking of other work in Lightroom if you just let me kick it off for nnn photos and then I can go and do something else outside Lightroom or outside the room.   In many cases all the photos in a given shoot that I have selected to edit are going to need to be denoised.   I love the non-desctructive functionality and not creating a seperate DNG but I despise having to do this photo by photo interactively with a long pause.

@C.Cella

You aren't understanding.  The denoise process is slow and arduous and prevents anything from happening while I wait.  My process has always been to fully edit and make final decisions on all of my photos before I choose the best of the best to denoise.  I am not going to denoise the photos as a general rule before I edit them.  If I have a set I am confident will be keepers, I can follow that process.  But the way it works now, I will not do that as a general rule.  It overworks my computer for nothing.  It bloats my catalog for nothing and it prevents me from doing anything else until it is done.  It worked just fine in 13.4 and my process was fine.

@michelleg7073996 you said.

"First, i have to denoise (at 50% with no choice of my own).  Then, I have to change the % to what I really want.  Then, if I do any masking/editing, etc to the image after, I have to do that AI Update button again after each change."

If you do Denoise first and Masking and a Remove after there is NO need to update Ai...so is not as you said.

If you do Denoise after Masking and Remove (which is a legitimate workflow) then you need to update Ai.

•Fwiw, I do SuperRes at the end not at the beginning for performance reasons.
