P: Export an image from LR Classic and edit with Nano Banana and return the edit to LR?

Someday Adobe will fix this and we will be able to take a LR file, edit it with the latest AI tools and return the edit smoothly to LR. And then I will probably pay them for that. I cancelled my free trial,

Here’s a way to make it much more convenient to use the Adobe Firefly service with LR Classic:

1. Create a folder “Firefly Downloads” to receive downloads from Firefly.

2. In LR, do File > Auto Import > Auto Import Settings to watch “Firefly Downloads” and rename and move the newly imported photos.

3. In the Chrome browser, set the option Settings > Downloads > Ask Where To Save Each File Before Downloading. (I think some other browsers have a similar option, but I haven’t checked.)

4. When you click the Download button in Firefly, Chrome will open a file browser window to pick the folder in which to download the edited photo. But it defaults to the last-used folder. So for the first photo in an editing session, you have may have to navigate to “Firefly Downlaods”, but for subsequent edited photos, it will default to that folder, and you just need to type Return.

The obvious trivial improvement would be for the Firefly service to allow you to specify a different folder into which the Download command puts photos. This would require the use of Chromium-based browsers that implement the MDN File System API.

But I’m skeptical that this would be implemented soon, since Firefly and LR Classic are two separate product teams with their own goals and priorities.

Disclaimer- I have no experience with this, but:

If you follow the recommended LrC method of using the [Edit In- Photoshop] to send an image to Ps, then any work you do to a document in Photoshop (including nano banana, or sky replacement), should return the Ps image to LrC by a simple [Save].

LrC [Edit In Ps] > edit in Ps > [Save] and the new image is back in LrC.

There is no Exporting or Importing involved in this workflow.

WILL WE BE ABLE TO directly return edits to Lightroom?

Adobe never announces in advance when (or if) a new feature will be available.
