P: Import again with all same settings ("Import with previous", like "Export with previous")

Often I come back from a shoot with the images spread across two cards. Upon importing, after selecting my "client" import preset, I still have to enter keywords and choose new folder for the job.

It would be very convenient, after importing from the first card, to insert the second and click "Import with previous," to simply add all the new images to those from the first card, with keywords, etc.

Of course, since I number each job starting from 0001, the "Import with previous feature" should also start numbering the second card images where the first card left off!

I understand that one can create a preset with all of these details, but that is overkill for an import that will only be repeated once or twice. The import presets list quickly gets long and cumbersome.

Thank you for your consideration!

As for having to change the destination folder??

hmm, I would have to go back and experiment on that. I always thought the destination folder displayed during a Copy, or a Copy as DNG would be whatever was used previously. And adding additional options would not change that.

Mind you, I very very much always use the Add option. If I am on a vacation photo shoot, and I have taken hundreds of photos, in order to get those photos copied to my computer at the end of the day in the quickest fashion, I use my file browser to do that, then go to dinner, and when I come back, I import them via Add. So, once again old dog old tricks, not familiar with the destination acting weird.

Perhaps I misunderstand.

/update/ Yes I misunderstand. I just attempted a few imports, selected COPY, change the destination, imported. Went back into import, destination did not change, added a develop preset (zeroed) my default metadata Preset (oh, new year, time to alter that, ) pasted in keywords. Destination did not change.

Ah the file rename.

My practice for file naming (renaming) is to use the syntax YYYMMDD_hhmmss. So in my case, not an issue. I accomplish that at import. But to each their own file name structure. Thing is, if you can abandon any desire to keep some form of the default name structure as your camera(s) use, like abandoning a starting sequence number (i.e. avoid 000n_img, etc) then you can get around the issue of different cameras presenting you with identical file names.

Their are lots of ideas on how to name photographs. Mine comes from a Landscape Photographers mindset, A Candid photographer would have something else in min. Wedding photographers would very much have something else in mind, etc.

Incidentally, you may wonder, date syntax? Huhhh, why not use date syntax in folder structure. Well I absolutely hate the default date structure to folder names, and I like a quick way to sort by capture date/time, heck this way without relying on metadata (directly), keywords, or file structure. Old dog old tricks.

So point being to not strictly adhere to a file name that requires or uses the original in camera image name. One that you like as descriptive, or useful.

Just as effective would be to have all the previous import settings still in place when you insert a new card and click "Import." Then would only need to update image rename sequence number.

And, indeed, I have done that. One also needs to set the correct image number for renaming. Also, if you use a preset to attach other settings to your import (backup folder, copyright info, etc.) you will need to choose again the destination folder.

So, during the import from the first card, you place keywords in the keyword  box in the Apply During Import Panel, correct?

You could, copy those keywords to your clipboard prior to clicking on Import. Then during the next import, paste them in.
