[You can now hide the built-in presets in LR 7.3 using a free plugin or manually with a multi-step recipe.  --John Ellis]

It is now possible, though tedious, to delete the built-in presets in LR 7.3 and later. See this recipe: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/delete_default_develop_presets?topic-reply-li... --John Ellis]

I really would like to be able to delete the develop presets that ships with LR3. I don't use them as they are in the way of my own presets when using the Library Module.

Thank you so much for this plugin! Works as great as your PSB Quick Look (love it!).

That works a treat, thank you very much! Up until now I was just renaming all the .xmp files to .xmp.disabled, but this is faster.

I just released the free Fix Presets plugin that lets you hide and and unhide all the built-in presets with a click of a button. The plugin also provides workarounds for a number of other develop preset issues.

I was skeptical but I can confirm this workaround does indeed work, thank you John.

John, thanks so much for clearing this up.  I've tried various versions with partial results.  You've made it easy and it works.  It's not quite as easy as if Adobe listened to its customers and gave us buttons to do it on top.  Regardless, thanks!

Obviously, it would be much better if this were finally built-in to LR. (I voted for this idea seven years ago.) But in the meantime, this workaround can help people get their work done while patiently waiting for Adobe.

Those are photoshop screenshots. This doesn’t help at all.

Here's a full recipe for hiding and deleting all of the built-in presets, on both Windows and Mac, with step-by-step for those not familiar with Photoshop, Camera Raw, or Mac Finder packages. (Nearly all CC subscribers will have access to Photoshop and Cameraw Raw.) (This recipe merges previous posts with partial recipes.)

1. In LR Library, select a photo and do the menu command Photo > Edit In > Open As Smart Object In Photoshop.

2. In Photoshop, if you don't see the Layers panel, do Window > Layers.

3. In the Layers panel, double-cick on the thumbnail to open the photo in Camera Raw:

4. In Camera Raw, click on the Presets tab (A):

5. Then right-click each preset folder (now called a "preset set") and do Hide Preset Set (B).

6. Delete the "Classic" presets provided by LR:

Mac: a) In Finder, do the menu command Go > Go To Folder and paste in the following path:

/Applications/Adobe
Lightroom Classic CC/Adobe Lightroom Classic
CC.app/Contents/Resources/Settings/Adobe

Click Go. Delete the subfolder "Presets".

b) In FInder, do Go > Go To Folder and paste in the following path:

/Applications/Adobe
Lightroom Classic CC/Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.app/Contents/Resources/Settings

Click Go. Delete the subfolder "Classic".

Windows: In File Explorer, delete these two folders:

C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic CC\Resources\Settings\Classic

C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic CC\Resources\Settings\Adobe\Presets

(You may wish to move these folders to your Documents folder, if you think you might ever wish to see the built-in presets again.)

7. Restart LR.

8. After installing a new version of LR, repeat these steps.

Adobe please do something about making these optional at the update stage if you won't allow them to be removed once installed.
