P: Make stacks Really Useful

Many people have pointed out that stacks would be more useful if you could have stacks across collections, and I hope Adobe is working to make that happen.

But why stop there? I could envision stacks having even more useful features, such as stacks within stacks, the ability to put collections within stacks; stacks that search. I think there is a lot of untapped potential in stacks.

A great idea for stacking.  If I create an HDR or PANO image from a collapsed stack of images, then the created image should be at the top of the stack, not outside the stack.  It would be a huge time saver.  Right now, you have to expand the stack and then drag the new image to the front of the stack every time

You skipped a lot of versions, and missed learning about all the changes. It will probably take you several weeks to find all the changes you missed in the interim versions.

And other users can select the background - so there is some option you've missed, or some mistake that you are making.

Do install the updates, then take it slow and spend some time getting familiar with all the changes.

New tools require time to learn: don't give up so quickly.

Well, I give up. I am reinstalling Photoshop 7. I cannot find any reason I cannot autoselect the background and it's slowing me down too much. Thank you for your help, but I hate this version and cannot recommend it to anyone else in good conscience.

...another option is causing you to not select the background.

In Photoshop, Help -> Updates...

I have not. This program was purchased last year and I only installed it last week (I was having some other computer issues). Do I just Google "CS6 Updates" or can you give me a link?
Your sentence was cut off: "My guess is that another option on the select tool is ....."

Yes you should be able to select the background by clicking on the canvas. My guess is that another option on the select tool is

Also, did you install all the updates for Photoshop CS6?

No idea on the printer driver problem - my guess is that Oki needs to update their driver software to work with modern OS versions.

Thank you for pointing out the tool options. That helps with the sets.

I am trying to auto-select the background by clicking on the canvas. Can I not do that any more?

Lastly, any recommendations on the driver problem? Like I said, I thought that because my current driver was 32 bit and CS6 is 64 bit that getting a 64 bit driver would fix the problem. It has not.

I would be grateful for any further advice. Thanks so much.

1) Look at the tool options for the select tool, and you might want to read up on some of the new options available

2) are you trying to auto-select the background by clicking on the canvas, or clicking in the layers palette?

3) is a driver issue, Photoshop updated to more recent print APIs, and it sounds like your driver is using older APIs and not working so well with the new OS APIs. No, the issue described has to be in the printer driver -- Photoshop has no control over how the printer spools multiple prints (Photoshop just tells the OS "print N copies").
