P: (Masking): Add option to fix a mask when using brush

Idea: the new mask function is great, but I wish to get these masked parts fixed in the image where they are. Or does it exist already and I am not able to find it?

Observation: Using the brush several times and above or around very tiny parts (eyes f.i.), the mouse/cursor unconsciously grabs the already masked parts oftenly and move it away to different places in the image. The function of „showing tools“ is not helpful in those cases, as these massive amount of graphic icons hovering around do disturb the whole view or even hide these tiny parts which I was concentrated on. I usually work with disabled function to have a clear image. But when de-selected "showing icons", you are not aware about where these masked sections are placed exactly.

Why not adding a simple option to fix/unfix every (first) mouse click with brush tool?

Hi Johan,

I just returned from vacancies - thanx for your question! Look here for samples:

https://www.picdrop.com/thomasrosenthal/Sw5maSHnsR?client

1. is unmasked (except gradient mask tool on sky)

2. lots of masking to light-up and reduce blue shadows on many facades in this one mask only

3. all masked sections (in one mask) got shifted togehether after (by chance) stroking the "first" mask area once again!

Okay,  I forced this shifting sample extremely in this case, just as a perfect simulation. In real situations, when f.i. lighting up a pair of eyes in one mask:

Stroking a very tiny eye (or disturbing light-reflex on glasses in a portrait), then the second eye, then returning to the first one for adding further strokes right beneath/around the first stroke is difficult. It easily turns into shifting these masked parts away in very often cases! Sometimes conciously, sometimes in too small steps that you are not aware to do one step back in protocol, instantly.

The function of „showing tools“ is not helpful in those cases, anyway, as the black icon usually covers small details like an eye apple in the picture, it even disturbs the impression of the whole pictur. Switched off, it does not warn you to be careful of stroking that tiny area again. Just a simple option to (always) lock masking from shifting would help and not bother anymore! ;o)

Cheers,

Thomas

I am not sure I understand what you are saying. When you add multiple brush strokes to the same mask, you won't get multiple graphic icons that obscure your view. Only the first brush stroke creates an icon. You would only get multiple icons if each brush stroke is a new submask. If the latter is what you do, then ask yourself if you really need each brush stroke to be a different submask.
