P: Match Camera Raw user experience for inverting Radial Filter

If you want the mask "Inside", then check Invert before you add the filter.

Whatever settings to Exposure, Highlights, Shadows, etc. that you make before creating a New filter are "remembered". This allows you to create a "default".

So if you set Exposure to +0.5, Highlights to -50 and check Invert before adding a new filter, then create the filter, these settings will be used. Close the Radial Filter tool, then after activating it again you should see these settings haven't changed. Add another filter and it will use those settings.

If you edit a radial filter, changing its settings doesn't change the "defaults", so the next filter created uses the "defaults" that you had previously set.

It definitely is! When you make a selection using the radial filter, the effect is applied to the area outside your selection, unless you press invert.

I don't think the Invert is set by default, but there is something strange going on where some settings are being carried over from one activation of the Radial Filter to another. Still trying to work out some logic to it so that it can be reported.

Why oh why when you use the radial filter does Lightroom default to the inverse? Makes no sense to me.
To make it even worse, since the addition of the new hue slider, getting to the invert button takes extra steps. It's a real pain.

We could just try to remember that Invert is for Inside 🙂

Only a workaround to the inconsistency-
1) Select the Radial Tool
2) Set the 'Invert' box
3) Exit the Radial Tool.
This sets it to a 'sticky' default, until you might change it in future.

I too think it's not intuitive at all; if I make a selection(circular in this case), I expect it to be filled and not the other way round. SO, I vote for a better description. 

Giving this my vote too. Adobe Lr team, it's just a word change - Invert to Inside. How hard can that be?

I use the radial filter infrequently and I can never remember which way it goes either.
