Lightroom will report on metadata collisions on a case by case basis. However, it does not provide for a way to search for files that metadata discrepancies vis a vis the catalogue.

Can this feature be easily added?

There is another thread for discussing metadata synchronization. This one may be a bit dead, since the original FR/Idea really has been implemented now.

Hi Rob,
Yes I know your plugin, tested it and might use it but,
-not everybody knows it
-interface / readability is not as good as what could be done natively (though I do not criticize your work 🙂 )
And finallly, I think that this functionnality is so important for a DAM, that it should have been there right since LR1. especially it is not that hard to code, everything is already in place, you just need proper UI spec.
But I can understand that it has been held back till now, there is so much to be done.
It is great that people like you try to address these issue by developping plugins.
However, ideally, plugin should only be needed for feature that are'nt "basics must have"

That is a step in the right direction, but it does not solve the problem completely.

Now we can see all the files that havea metadata conflict at once, but we still do not know what is the problem.

I would like to have a dialog box that shows for each of these images the differences, between the file metadata and the database record, so I can choose which way to synchronise.

|> "Any thoughts on how best to determine whether to keep catalog or external when the files may have been in multiple catalogs?"

Not really.

My workflow is fairly simple - keep photo in only one catalog, and never enter metadata anywhere but Lightroom, and always launch Photoshop from Lightroom. With those rules, it is almost always safe to overwrite disk. If there is any question, I use ChangeManager to provide a detailed list of the differences between settings and metadata in catalog vs. disk.

Having a photo in multiple catalogs definitely poses a wrinkle...
