P: Recognize .tiff as a flavor of .tif automatically

Lightroom Classic opens a filename-edit.tif in Photo AI. Photo AI however returns the file as filename-edit.tiff.  That seems incorrect.  Note I have enabled Photo AI to overwrite existing files.  As a consequence the new file is not synched w/  LR.

Have I missed something?   Ah apparently, yes.. I might not be the only one.

In the Photo AI preferences: Export->Save TIFFs as TIF

IMHO - the program should recognize that the input file is a TIFF with a suffix "tif" and not by default swap it with "tiff".

Using:
Topaz Photo v1.0.2
LR Classic v15.0.1
Mac OS v15.6.1

Hi @ericw92588751,

Thanks for taking the time to document this so clearly and for sharing your own findings with the community.

I don’t have direct access to test or validate the behavior inside third-party apps like Photo AI or your specific round-trip workflow. That said, your observation about the file extension change from .tif to .tiff is very clear and helpful.

I’ll pass along your feedback and testing notes to the product team so they can review whether Lightroom could handle this scenario more effectively in the future.

I really appreciate you circling back with the workaround and helping other users who may encounter the same issue.

Best regards,

Anshul Saini
