P: "smart" watermark to include data (location/name/date/lens/camera - EXIF/metadata etc.)

Is there a way to create a watermark in either Photoshop or Lightroom that is "smart" in that you can customize it to pull data from the metadata of the photo (date/time image was taken, lens used, camera body used, etc.) or file information (folder, subfolder, etc.) ?

Could it be that this "third party tool" is in fact a "troll" - a patent troll - that this "good idea" has been patented and the cost to license isn't worth the market benefit Adobe could expect from buying this feature?

Hi Scott,
Good point, that's a great idea.

Try that.

See if it works?

We all did, over three years ago, we're still waiting for an answer from Adobe which doesn't start "well, there's this third party tool ....."

I think "Hey guys! It would be awesome if you would consider implementing metadata powered watermarking" would be better received than "Hey you jerks, implement this already!" Let's keep it civil for everyone's sake. And thanks Adobe for all your excellent work.

There is no way Richard.

We've been complaining about it for 3 years and more and Adobe's answer is always, "Well, here's a third party tool that does it so, we don't have to solve it".

I'd like to either know how, or have a product feature change request on this topic.
LR 5.5 has the ability in the Print module to add data like the exposure, filename etc. to the output. What I can't make happen (for whatever reason) is for that data to be overlaid on the image area rather than in a border below it. I'd like from print or the file export facility to create a template using keywords for such data fields which can be floated over the image being printed/exported without changing the dimensional area of the image - similar to how the watermark and identity plate work today, just a more robust set of output options available. This would be useful for documentary processes. Manually editing the identity plate for say each filename is unworkable... Education if I'm just missing it, or someone respond on a way to acheive this without leaving LR ?

Seriously guys (I mean Adobe employee type guys) we've been asking you for this feature for over three years now.

Clearly there is some, non-technical, issue with doing it or you would have cracked it by now.

What's the problem?

LR6, options to include image metadata with text watermarks (i.e. Photographed on Apr 5, 2014, 24:01:32). Perhaps up to two lines would be nice.

Expand the editing capability of the watermark editor so that a placeholder for the current date can be incorporated into a text watermark. The three basic components of a copyright marking are the © symbol, the name of the owner, and the date. Only the date is variable, and it must currently be added manually. The date placeholder needed would be equivalent to that used in the file name editor. (Looks like {DATE} when used there.)

Excellent idea! I was contemplating requesting this as a feature and am glad to know this was already done. I understand that there are other options, but those create extra steps for the workflow and I'd rather manage it all through Lightroom.

Thanks in advance for the consideration.

+1 to this feature!
