Support for HEIC file format was included in Lightroom CC but still is needed in Lightroom Classic.  When will it be added?

[HEIC image support was added to LR 7.4 (for Mac OS 10.13 or later) and LR 7.5 (Windows 10).  (We're now at LR 8.2.1.) See https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/kb/heic-files-support.html.

I am stilling on a large backlog of HEIF files on multiple phone. A David said, I won’t downgrade them to JPEG to bring them into LR. Support now exists in Windows 10 so it’s time to get support into LR Classic (a most unfortunate choice of names for a great product).

So woh the lack of support. Are there any good alternatives people would recommend switching to?

Adobe, if you were transparent from day one that it was a cost issue, I would have paid up the licensing cost for my individual use. But keeping us in the dark, ignoring the users is not respectful. Now I'm less eager than ever to pay more, if you would increase the price to cover the licensing fees.

iPhone users pay up to a 1000 USD for their devices. You could have easily earned some of our cash if you gave us the option to add HEIC support for your Adobe products!

I second what Jason said. If it was purely a licensing issue, why wouldn't they tell us that?

At this point it's beyond farce. Sensei can edits your pictures for you, but LR can't read the file format used by the most popular camera on the planet. I never used Aperture but the effects of its demise (complacency) are still being felt.
