P: Tethering on Apple Silicon Macs

Hey Adobe developers! You probably don't hear this much but Apple Silicon Mac users are *really* excited about Lightroom running so extremely well in native mode. The speed improvements are massive. For example, I work with 2GB raw DNG files (400megapixel Fuji GFX cameras) and things that took 6 and 2 minutes before now take 4 and 1 seconds. It's a life changing improvemnt - thanks for working so hard to make this transition possible!

Tethering however requires that we reboot under Rosetta. Those of us in the cultureal heritatge artwork documentation community are shooting 100+ megapixel cameras all day long. While Rosetta is really quite impressivly fast, it's a bummer to not be able to enjoy the native speeds while shooting. For example, after taking a picture one must zoom into 100% and check focus, and this is far faster when running in native mode.

So this is just a reminder in case someone forgot, or lowered the priority on making tethering native. We look forward to and will really benefit from this being native - thanks!!

Bumping this up to the top. When will native tethering on M1 be available Adobe?

Ah thanks for informing me. That's obviously Adobe's issue mostly then. They need to provide tethering on M1 Macs ASAP. Hopefully they're not waiting for every vendor to publish native APIs as we might have to wait a very long time.

Regardless of what camera you may have, Adobe states that Tethered Capture is only supported via Rosetta. https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/tether-support-apple-silicon-devices.html

Is Fuji's API native? The API usually lags behind the software by quite a bit (not at all a priority for the camera makers) and it would not at all suprise me they haven't published a native API. Also their own tethering software was last updated in Feb 2021 so will not have any M1 support yet. No clue either way but I do know tethering support in Lightroom is completely dependent on the availability of a native API.

Fuji's software is native. Regardless of camear usage, "Start Teather Capture" requires running LR under Rosetta.  Are they going to hold us hostage untill all the API's are native? Or is there somthing else that could be done? Would love to get clarification on why this is from Adobe and what could be done to push this alone. Continuing under Roesetta for years is not an option...

That's a good point.

I will write to FUJI too. I know it might not make a big difference but hopefully hearing from all of us will help a little to make things happen sooner than later.

You are probably right Kenneth,

Although I might not have worded it properly, my goal is not so much to get a sneak peak at Adobe's announcement but more to let them know that there are users like Scott and I who run our business capturing images tethered to our computer and native tethered ability in Lightroom would be a featured very important to us.

I believe tethering is reliant on the camera manufacturers releasing a native API for it which might be why we haven't seen any native support yet as none of them have released M1 support in their APIs yet.

Francesco that's my camera and Mac as well. So exctiing to finally get everything upgraded, but then all this is for not without Lightroom running nativiely. Please Adobe, this part is really important to us.

Adobe almost never announces new features in advance. We will all know at the same time when a new version is released that has additional/improved tethering.
