P: "Validate DNG Files" feature suggestions

-Not everybody uses dng (I do but I also have plenty of jpegs, and tiff) ( or think about those for which the camera creates dng without digest)

=> therefore it would be nice to extend this to other file format. There is not much job required here. Just compute the MD5 checksum at import, and store it in the database (though it would be nice to store it in xmp as well - custom xmp are made for that). Alternatively the MD5 checksum could be computed and stored whenever it does not already exist in the database

-Make it easy to select a backup folder (provided it has the same organization as the current live folders) and restore the bad file. Let me explain:uld

Assume I find bad dng, I would then like to replace them with a backed up file, but what if that backed up file is corrupted as well (for example you backed up the corrupted file ). I would like then the software to let me know I am doing a useless recovery and I should select another backed up file.

I think most people are like me and do not bother to reorganize file when they back up their photos: I just take the top level folder containing my photos and copy it over the backup disk, - so the recovery option of lightroom could work the same way the reconnect drives work: If I move a folder, it appears as disconnected, as do all its photos and subfolders, and I just have tell lightroom where this folders lies to reconnect all the contained files/subfloder.

->so there you would just have to tell lightroom where the top level or where the backed up file lies for lightroom to copy the backed up file and replace the corrupted one. Before doing so Lightroom should warn you if the backedup file digest is OK. Lightroom could also warn you that the metadata have changed since the last backup (for example since that last backup you changed the legend and made more developpment) and let you decide whether you want or not to apply this changes to the restored file.

I just noticed a bug... The missing files show up in a "Bad DNG files" list under catalog. Even after I plugged back in my external hard drive and ran the validate feature again (which confirmed that I have 0 bad files), the list of bad files still showed the files detected from the validation while they were offline.
