P: Virtual Copy Functionality in Quick Collection places copy in an unexpected location

Suggestion for Improved Virtual Copy Functionality in Quick Collection

I’ve noticed that when creating virtual copies within Quick Collection, the virtual copy automatically jumps to the beginning of the collection. This disrupts the workflow, especially when working with a large series of images. It would be much more efficient if virtual copies remained next to the original file, consistent with the behavior in Collections, Smart Collections, and regular folders.

Thank you for considering this improvement.

While I am aware of the View -> Sort menu options, sorting by capture time or file name does not meet my needs. Maintaining a custom order of images is crucial for my workflow. While I’m not expecting Lightroom Classic to anticipate my needs, I am requesting a way for virtual copies to remain next to the original file when created.

To accommodate different preferences, an option could be introduced allowing users to choose whether virtual copies remain next to the original file. For those of us who prefer this functionality, it would greatly enhance workflow efficiency.

Currently, Lightroom Classic not only places virtual copies at the beginning of the collection but also redirects the user’s attention to the virtual copy. This is highly disruptive, especially when working with a large series of images, as it forces manual repositioning and interrupts the workflow. Ideally, virtual copies should be sequenced directly after the copied version, regardless of whether the original is a master file or a virtual copy.

Custom means it is up to you to move images into the order you intend. And another user will have different ideas on what order is desirable AND on how newly added images should show. How could LrC know what is in each user's mind?

You need to sort the photos in the Quick Collection. Use the menu command View->Sort. Probably you want to sort by capture time, or by file name.
