Does anyone know if Adobe plans to add support for the 2x lens in LR Mobile?

Hello @34091120 et all,

I have no updates from engineering on this.  Apple's native camera is doing a software trick to make 2X seem like a real lense when it is not.

For now, all I can recommend in the LR camera is to capture with the 1X lens.  During capture, you can pinch the screen to zoom in (the zoom factor is shown on screen).  Later, you can always undo this crop that was made in the camera.

In LR mobile, you can switch zoom by switching lenses. However, that means on 14 pro we don't get the 50mm, which in the native camera app is achieved by cropping the main sensor.

That said on 14 pros we have 13, 24, and straight to 77mm. A big gap there! Please solve this issue.

I would like to upvote this, missing the x2 crop a lot.

Hello, I would like to eheavily upvote this. @Charlie.D @Ranjisha Sengupta Is there any update on adding this feature?

x2 (48mm equivalent) crop really needed for the street photography use case using Adobe LightRoom iOS app.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Hi @Alan9940

I don't disagree with Ranjisha's advice about where to post new ideas and feature requests, but I don't understand your question.  LR Mobile does have support for the 2X "tele" lens on that device, and is able to capture DNG, HDR, and JPG images with that lens.  Are you really asking about the ultrawide lens?  If so, LR Camera can only capture JPGs, because Apple hasn't made it possible for app like LR to do DNG capture with that lens.  You'd have to use the native camera instead.

Hi @Charlie.D

Hmm, maybe I'm confused...

When I tap the little lens icon I get:  W, UW, and T which makes perfect sense since the iPhone 14 Pro has three lenses. But, Apple built some sort of "magic" (pixel-binning?), I believe, utilizing the 48 megapixels of the Wide lens to essentially provide a 2x lens. Therefore, in the native Apple camera app you have a 0.5, 1x, 2x, and 3x lenses. Other third-party apps such as Halide and ProCamera also enable this 2x lens in addition to the three physical lenses. Therefore, in the native camera app and those third-party apps I mentioned you get 4 lenses. I don't see where LR Mobile's camera allows for the 2x lens. If it's there, please let me know how to access it.

Thank you.

Hello @Alan9940

I appreciate your follow-up/correction.  You are correct.  I had forgotten that the iPhone 14 Pro Max tele lens is a 3X and not 2X lens.  And you're right that the current LR Camera design doesn't expose the 2X option, which is apparently some sort of sensor crop image.  I'll ensure a ticket is logged with the engineering team to ask for this, but I can't comment on if/when this functionality might be implemented.

Thanks again for your post!

[Edit: converting this post to an Idea, to help track internally as a feature request]

Hi @Alan9940

Thanks for reaching out. There is no communication on this as such.

It will help if you share your feedback on our community's idea section: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-ecosystem-cloud-based/ct-p/ct-lightroom?page=1&sort=latest_replies&filter=all&lang=all&tabid=ideas.

Since our engineers monitor this forum, they will review it for future product development.

Regards,

Ranjisha
