P: Additional options needed when exporting

I ask because when you export in Lightroom CC, called "save to," the only parameter you can adjust is the pixels. Nothing else that I can see. In other versions of Lightroom you get a whole bunch of parameters to adjust, including DPI. Clients specify sometimes the settings that they want. Or another possibility is that I'm doing it wrong, and if so, could someone let me know how to export and adjust things like DPI.

Hey Team!

This issue is Ultra frustrating and I can't believe I'm spending my entire day figuring this out, I would appreciate it if you could take the time to read this post and discuss this issue

Your software LR CC has some serious color space issues depending on which device you export from, The way the color reacts to social media is different, the image color and gamma is different it's a total mess guys and gals...

Ideally, I would share my edits straight from LR CC to my friends or clients using the Share Function and online gallery however

The images and respectively.. the color to be exact do not correctly/accurately translate into social media services such as Instagram or export correctly full stop from LR it'self at all depending on the device you export from... LR CC has no redundancy between apps and devices what so ever!

I wanna say now that I love LR CC and LR classic and the way CC works between devices with presets is  incredible, I love taking pictures editing on my lightweight Ipad then fishing them off on my phone... but this issue is beyond stupid

-What's the main issue TLDR-

  1. Lightroom CC Exports sRGB, or RAW files color space and gamma visually wrong straight out of LR CC depending on the device you use (Desktop or mobile)
  2. Lightroom CC Exports sRGB, or RAW files color space and gamma correctly visually but in the wrong format so once imported into Instagram (Example) the colors will transform incorrectly cause the format must be wrong

Here is a list of images exported from my devices

--Instagram / Social media format problems--

Below is an "sRGB jpeg" image exported through Lightroom CC (Desktop) and imported into Instagram.
This is exactly how I edited the image in LR CC/Classic

This is the exact same "sRGB Jpeg" image exported from Lightroom CC (Mobile - Pixel 2 XL) instead and then imported into Instagram... and it is definitely not How I edited the image almost like it's an AdobeRGB Image being transformed

Here is the same comparison of the same images next to each other

Both images were imported into Instagram through the same phone (Pixel 2 XL) as the exact same image (Jpeg sRGB) but the only difference was I exported the image from LRCC from Desktop on one, and mobile on the other

Exported from LR CC Mobile Ipad Pro, this one is tough to see but when you see the change in person it's big, Original image is a .ARW raw image above is as edited once into Instagram you see the colors change (Once again no problem when exporting from desktop CC)

Same as above but with Pixel 2 XL, Colors fade badly! but once again this issue dosnt occur if you export the same way from Desktop LR CC

--LR CC ISSUES EXPORTING--

This issue is LRCC it's self and not Instagram related, Mobile Pixel 2 XL can't export .ARW files correctly at all, left is as seen on Mobile right is after export

Wrong color format once again between devices, see below image to see output colour

Ipad Pro LR CC - Color Representation "Uncalibrated"

Pixel 2 XL LR CC - Color Representation "....."

Desktop LR CC - Color Representation "sRGB"

Before you say this is an Instagram problem, it's not because any image exported from LR Classic or LR CC Desktop as Jpeg sRGB will load perfect 1:1 into Instagram, it's purely the way LR CC Mobile exports Jpeg images from other devices.

LR CC is ultra inconsistent in how it treats color after export depending on the device I seem to use and exports weird formats that don't work well with social services such as Instagram

All I can say is that if you export from Desktop LR CC you will get the best color, the best resolution (DESPITE picking maximum on all devices) and a working image for Instagram with no problem 10/10 times, with Ipad or Mobile phone it's a gamble

I won't go into how a "Maximum resolution export" on mobile isn't even the same size as a "Maximum resolution export" on LR CC Desktop...
Please please look into this because It adds so much headache trying to share photos to Mobile and desktop users when you're already using LR CC it's got sharing functions built-in but the exporting of color is wrong

So it sucks that we have to use a computer just to export our presets as DNG files .It will be dope if we can just make a preset and save our photo as a DNG so we can share some of our presets with others.
DNGs are very popular and just don’t get the right attention from you guys and if you let us do this I’m 100% the app will be better.

Would be great to have at least the control on:
export sharpening like lightroom classic
at least tiff 16bit

Now with IpadOS , lightroom cc will be my first approach to for the editing and would be great to stop the need to go on desktop for a simple high quality export.

My photos are about 32mb when I add to lightroom and when I export they're only about 3mb! I'm not sure about how much quality is lost but not so much compression would be nice!

Really need the option to save images in 300dpi in LR CC. Print shops and editorial want 300dpi but LR CC only saves in 240dpi. I don't want to switch to classic or have to edit in photoshop all the time, Can you please give this option to save as 300dpi to speed up work flow.

Just re-read your message, Alex - my last tip won't work without the photo being in Adobe's CC storage. So I'm not sure what you mean by 'processing photos that don't need to go in the database' but if you meant you'd like to use the LR CC app to edit a photo without syncing it to your Adobe CC storage (is that possible?) and then export from there, my tip won't work for you. You'd need to sync the photo first (so it's available on LRfW) and then use my workaround: once the photo is synced, it will automatically be added to your LR Classic catalog (i.e. its database) through the cloud...

Hi Alex! I don't normally use LR CC to export & share images, but tested the latest version on my Android tablet: it exports photos (via the Save to device option) with a really odd name:

LRM_EXPORT_[15 seemingly random digits]_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS[4 digits]].jpeg

It's not explicitly useful, and I could find no clear way to specify an alternative. If it's the same on the iPad, then I guess you're looking for a way to get an exported image with the format you already use for naming files during import (as you specified above), correct?

If so, then I have a few things to consider.

If you're willing to do this one photo at a time, then you could export and just use the existing iOS Files app to rename the photo. The date appears in the default exported filename, so you can export/download each photo in LR CC then switch to the Files app and rename each photo in turn.

If you need to do this with a batch of photos at once, then you'd need an iOS app that supports batch renaming with variables. Hopefully someone else can help with this (from a quick Google search, I couldn't find any that seemed reputable - which is odd for an Apple product), and I don't have an iPad to test.

The only other workaround I can suggest is to go to the Lightroom for Web CC (LRfW) interface instead using your web browser (lightroom.adobe.com and login with your Adobe ID) and open the photo there. Then save/export the photo from there using the Download this photo icon (below the Share icon on the rightside taskbar). For some odd reason, LRfW provides the same number of limited exporting options as LR CC app but the default file name is [Filename].jpeg - so you'd get your exported image with the same naming convention as your LR Classic CC import convention. That way you don't have to do any file renaming. The only downside is that even though you can select multiple photos in LRfW when viewing all photos in an album (or collection) by ticking the auto-hidden selection tick-box in the upper right corner of each photo on the grid, LRfW does NOT provide the Download this photo option in its list of actions - so you can't currently batch export multiple photos. Also, I haven't tested to see if LRfW automatically uses the photo's Title metadata (if not blank) instead of the Filename, so do your own testing first.

Hope this helps.

You can sync iPad iOS Lightroom to Lightroom classic as well. I do this. I work in the field with my iPad, with images sent from my DSLR. They sync from iOS iPad Lightroom to Lightroom Classic on my laptop, and I can then export them the way I want it.

I work with a team of 35 other photographers who all use Lightroom Classic in their workflow. For most of us, we would rather be using the newer Lightroom CC version, so that we can work seemlessly between our Desktop devices and our portable devices (iPads etc).

However, we are restricted to Classic for the simple fact that CC doesn't offer the option to export with a certain file name format. We compile our photos into a single database and organise them into Date and Time using the file name format:

Date (DD) Date (Month) Hour-Minute-Second NAME

This helps keep our database in a readable structure.

If this option was available on CC I'm sure more of us would use that as our editing software, as we find its such more satisfying and speedy for our personal work (lots of us use it when we're working separately for photos that aren't going into the Database.

Does anyone have any idea of a workaround for this? Currently my only option is to export from CC, and import back into Classic, simple to change the file name; which just isn't worth the extra import+export time sadly.

> Adobe has made it clear that any export setting at all on Lightroom CC would be blasphemy

No, it's a valid feature request, it's just not there yet.
