P: Screenshot Filter for Cloud-Stored Media in iOS
Feature Request: Screenshot Filter for Cloud-Stored Media in iOS
1. Current Limitation:
- In the iOS Photos app (local library), users can easily distinguish between screenshots and regular camera photos (e.g. via the “Screenshots” album).
- However, once images are uploaded to iCloud or stored in iCloud Drive, this classification no longer persists in the cloud environment.
2. Resulting Problem:
- During search and filtering within the cloud-stored media (especially via iCloud.com, Files app, or shared albums), there is no way to isolate screenshots.
- This impacts productivity and search efficiency, particularly for:
- Professionals using screenshots for documentation
- Users managing large media libraries
- Developers, educators, and content creators
3. Comparative Benchmark:
- Competing cloud storage providers (e.g. Google Photos, OneDrive) already offer:
- Persistent screenshot classification across cloud and local views
- Search filters for media type (e.g. “type:screenshot”)
4. Suggested Enhancement:
- Extend the “Screenshots” classification metadata to iCloud-stored files.
- Enable filter/search by media type (“screenshot”, “photo”, “screen recording”) across:
- iCloud web interface
- Files app
- iCloud photo search (including shared albums)
5. Benefit:
- Improves content retrieval speed
- Aligns iCloud functionality with industry standards
- Supports advanced workflows and media management for power users
