Restore Firefly 3 as an option?

Firefly 3 has been removed as an option in today’s beta. I would agree it’s not good for a whole lot, we find it demonstrably better with hair than Firefly 1 or Firefly Fill and Expand. Will it be removed from the release version as well? We are hoping not.

Firefly Image 5 is an incredibly useless model; Fill & Expand only serve to expand images and are not useful for modifying details. The only decent model is Firefly 1, which is three years old. It’s unbelievable how Adobe managed to get worse in this way. Give me Firefly 3 back! It at least managed to do things decently.

    Hi all,

    • Firefly Image 3 was intentionally removed from Gen Fill/Expand in 27.6 as part of a planned sunset — this is working as designed.

    Thanks,

This is a shame. I maintain that it is indispensable for hair edits and others seem to agree. Neither Model 1 nor “fill & expand” can handle it without making a mess of it.

Can it be retained as an option, even if it’s buried somewhere?

Others agree and we are now using two versions of PShop for just this reason.

    Serious friction for professional retouchers.

Is there anyway to bring back Firefly 3? I agree it is the best option for editing with Ai!

I am very disappointed that Firefly Image 3 was removed from the model selector.

Firefly Image 3 was significantly better when working with hair, fur, and fine details. It provided a natural flow of strands, realistic volume, and beautiful interaction with light — exactly what is key for high-quality portrait and realistic work.

The new Firefly Fill & Expand lacks volume, for example, and tends to make the hair look kind of greasy, but I use it and I am quite satisfied with its results. Firefly 5 produces visibly waxy, artificial, and often blurry hair results, and in the state it is in the latest version 27.6, it is unusable for me. The difference is so marked that I immediately downgraded to version 27.5 so I could continue using Firefly 3, and I am praying that it stays. I know I am not alone in this.

I understand the desire to move forward, but the complete removal of such a strong model I consider a step backwards for all those who rely on realistic organic details. I would greatly appreciate it if Adobe would consider:

    • Bringing back Firefly Image 3 as an optional choice in the model selector (at least for those who need it), or
    • Significantly improving the new models (Fill & Expand and Image 5) in the area of hair — strand definition, volume, natural flow, and light interaction — so that they achieve or exceed the quality of Firefly 3.

Please keep Firefly 3 at least as an optional choice for those who use it daily. For this type of work, it has so far been by far the best model.

Thank you for your attention and for the further development of Firefly.

thank you for your feedback! Would it be possible for you to send us files that show that Firefly 3 has better fine details comparing to Fill & Expand and FF5, so we can look how we can improve it? You can email me files directly to imaderyc@adobe.com

If anyone knows the answer to your question, they would be under NDA and could not say. Generally speaking, features are tested in the beta version and not all make it to the released version.

    @robertw44482386

With the previous forum software moderators could move posts. Now only staff can move posts. I just put in a request, but if it doesn’t appear in the Beta forum within a day or two, go ahead and repost.

EDIT: Thread has been moved to the Beta forum.
