Can we please get better camera and object animation options?

I use stager for a lot of product graphics, advertisement etc... It would be amazing if i could do like a simple forward movement of the camera like from point a to point b in a straight line... having ONLY orbit and spin animation options is honestly extremely limiting. almost makes the animation feature useless. You guys could set it up sssoooooooooooooooooooooo simple also, timeline with keyframes kind of like on premiere pro...

Hello Alan,

Thank you. Agree and further,Stager already has features that are (a) robust and (b) numerous. In this fact, is an intrinsic and significant "rub". To explore and have a good facility in how to use what already has been developed [and thus be ableto use a great app as it is now] is a significant undertaking.

So my comment that one perhaps could add in an animations alone a path [not a new concept at all] might be "easy" [ relatively - it is never as "easy" as one might 1st think] might be useful to do [implyed by you -I think- and if so agree -and at some point to consider this as an added in [as I belie Cyril indicates funtionality.

By far, the greatest bottleneck that  my company is facing in taking advantage of all of the 3D Substance apps and in integration of these  newer apps with those that  have been around since the CS2 era, and before, like Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign and the video editing apps like Premier and After Effects is caused by computer hardware. As far as the company has been able to determine, to date,  the computer hardware needed to (a) gain facility in the wide spectrum of functionality of newer apps functionality [and new features to apps that in some cases have been in development now for decades] and then integrate all of  these in such a work-flow that multiple of these [some being quite compute intensive] running / processing at the same time and then allow the user to then go onto another tasks e.g. catch up on email.

Not to get to deep into the "weeds",  the  two "apex" [s]  of the computer configuration needed are that every major component of the workstation has: [a] is on a PCIe-5 bus [b] allow the utilization of at least 96 GB GPU functions e.g. Compute , 3D, Graphics, CUDA , loading the model / scene- either on a single card or be able to be pooled by several cards into one GPU accessible space. As an example the Mercury engine for Stager seems to utilize Compute , memory [GPU and system RAM] 3D graphics, system RAM but CUDA. Another app may in fact use CUDA.

Thus far the company has been unable to identify such a workstation configuration and suspects that such has not been brought to the general market yet. The company is hopful that in the near future such configurations will become available and at which time it woud be effective for the company to deploy a large spectrum of Adobe apps [for candidate] users use.

Thank you,

Andrew

Hi @Andrew A_,

I think @Cyril Dellenbach had given the best answer to your question that anyone can give at the moment. Stager is still in development, and there are always new features on the roadmap.

Hello All,

I am new to this form and apploigise if there are newer posts that address this mater [ I am not finding any. But having said, there is a good chance that this is so, because this new user [me], is not versed enough in the platform.]. If so, please kindly direct me to where one could review / possibly contribute to the latest disscussion. Thank you. Howerver, in specific, what I suspect has already been suggested is that one be able to animate an object and or the camera along a path. Perhads the path is draw using the same set [ or -sub set of tools] that is in the Pen Tool in Illistrator. Thank you, Andrew

@Cyril Dellenbach I'd be happy if Stager on Windows had a platform-standard UI, whereby pressing Alt enabled the top level menu with underlined key shortcuts, the app frame conformed to current OS standards, and we had an option to configure kbsc's to match designer defaults (as in Dimension), where W is the Magic Wand A is Align instead of the other way around. Those should have been voted "Most Illogical Shortcuts of the Year," regardless of what app they first appeared in. (Don't get me started on Blender... )

Hello Thomas, Hi Alan,

When we added the animation feature in Substance 3D Stager, we were glad of its simplicity, but we obviously knew the movements were pretty basic.

I can't share or promise anything, but we should have more animations coming in the future.

Best regards,

It seems likely that both dolly options could be added to the animation feature now that rotation is handled. That kind of motion isn't too hard to fake in After Effects using a rendered PSD, usually, because the POV doesn't change. We've been doing 2.5D in Ae forever.

What could be very useful inside Stager is a way to set simultaneous or sequential animation. (Camera orbits while object is rotating; or object rotates, stops, moves left, rotates once, stops.) I can think of a number of advertising applications for that kind of capability.
