Ctrl + C (Copy) not working properly in Adobe Illustrator — works intermittently

Hi everyone, I’m looking for help because I’ve already exhausted the basic troubleshooting steps.

Problem:
The Copy function (Ctrl + C) in Adobe Illustrator works inconsistently — sometimes it copies, sometimes it doesn’t. In many cases I have to press Copy multiple times before it actually works. Consequently, Paste also fails because the object never gets copied to the clipboard.

Important details:

  • Objects are definitely selected (Selection Tool)

  • Layers are not locked

  • Isolation Mode is off

  • Files are not read-only

  • Not related to a specific object

    Hi SemOli,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble you’re experiencing with copying and pasting in Illustrator. Would you mind telling us the version of Illustrator installed on your machine and the details of your operating system?

You may also try running Illustrator after rebooting your computer in Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and let us know if that helps.

We will be happy to assist you further.

    Thanks,

    Harshika
